When did you get energy back?

Curious for all you "losers" out there--on average, how much weight did you lose before you started getting your energy levels back up? I know everyone is different, but I CAN'T WAIT until I get 10 lbs. or so off so I have energy after work to come home and clean or just do dishes or laundry instead of sitting in my fat chair and watching tv. The insurance company still have not scanned my paperwork from my new doctor, but they said as soon as it is in the system, it shouldn't take long for the approval since I was already approved from the first doctor. So, I am walking a bit funny lately, having my toes, legs, arms and fingers crossed?!?! I am soooo ready for this. Love to all Sharon B.

Sharon, It wasn't in how much weight I lost, it was more how much exercise I did- I started walking about 4-5 weeks after surgery and I would do 3 laps at the track and be about dead by the time I got home. But, after doing it for 2 weeks straight, I was walking a whole mile and not having to lay down when I got home. I started doing water aerobics before surgery so I would have some more energy, I thought it would also help me heal faster. Once you change your lifestyle to include moderate amounts of exercise, you will have more energy. Do you have a walking partner? I couldn't have gotten up off the couch if it wasn't for my sister, who would come and drag me to the track. Now that I am 183 pounds lighter, I have way more energy, but I remember being 2 months out and people telling me that I walked faster, I did more and I felt that I had more energy. Good luck to you, I will keep my fingers crossed also. Take care!

I am hoping I can get to walking right after surgery. I will be having the RNY done. I completed the San Diego marathon in June of 2001 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and I would truly enjoy being able to raise money again and complete another marathon, but this time I will try to run more of it and not walk as much. I worry about my insides shaking up and yanking something loose.

Sharon, Like you said everyone is different. I was nervious about blood clots so I started walking immediately when I got home. For the first couple of weeks I took a nap in the afternoon, otherwise I was up walking 6 or more times a day. I did many laps around my neighborhood and gradually expanded the route. I was fortunate in that I had very little pain. In fact I only took pain medicine the first day home. I would say that by the end of the first week, I noticed my energy level coming back. I say this, because I started getting restless. I am not one who can sit around and do nothing. Now 7 months post-op I am like the energizer bunny, always on the move. In fact my friends are constantly telling me that they can't keep up with me. (and these are people whom I had a hard time keeping up with). I will keep my fingers crossed for your approval as well!
