TO ANYONE WHO ...MEDICAID
Hello Everyone!
To anyone one has been approved through Iowa Medicaid: I have been told that Iowa Medicaid requires 2 years of Dr. supervised diets. My question is: Is a letter from my PCP enough, or will clinical notes be required as well. The letter that my PCP has written did say that I had 13 1/2 years of diet attempts. Over the past three years I have been to see my PCP at least every 1-2 months (weighed in everytime) and my weight was always discussed because it has always been an issue, but it was not put into the notes, only the main physical reason I was there was. I am in my 2nd month of a Dr. supervised diet now. I should be getting a call from my surgeon within the next 1 - 1 1/2 months. I have already had my sleep study (moderate-severe sleep apnea-Waiting for CPAP to be ordered and delivered). My co-morbidities are: Type II Diabetes-Insulin Resistance (due to PCOS), Depression, Anxiety, history of Congestive Heart Failure, Hypothyroidism, CFS, probable Fibromyalgia, constant and severe headaches (usually migraines), Moderate-Severe Sleep Apnea, chronic neck, back, hip, knee, ankle, and feet pain, chronic asthmatic bronchitis, fertility problems (also due to PCOS), breathlessness after very little exertion, and a wealth of family history of cancer (Bone, Breast, Cervical, and Lung), Type II Diabetes, Heart Disease, Morbid Obesity, Depression, and chronic back problems (requiring surgeries).
I am praying that my BMI of 47.0 (as of last weigh-in) plus my co-morbidities and family history plus the fact that my PCP wrote that I have attempting dieting for 13 1/2 years will help to get me approved.
I am sorry for such a long post, but I was hoping that anyone that has been approved through Iowa Medicaid could give me some insight and some hope of getting this surgery in the next couple of months.
Please, please! I am so scared I will not be approved or that I will have to wait for another 2 years, and physically I don't think my body can take that.
Thank you so much for any and all replies!
Blessed Be!
Sherry
Hi Sherry,
I was approved with Iowa Medicaid and I just had my PCP write a letter to take to the surgeon's office to be sent in with his paper work and I did not have all the co-morbidities you do. I just know everything will turn out for you Sherry No worries my dear, just be sure all your ducks are in a row! Take care
Tammy
Sherry, I have Medicaid also and I was denied the first time, but approved after an appeal. I have the appeal letter if you would like me to send it to you. E-mail me and let me know. Elizabeth PS, I don't think you are going to have a problem, but I think a lot of the time they deny people the first time just to see how serious they really are.
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you so much for your reply! Yes, I would love to have a copy of your appeal letter, just in case! I really hope I don't have any problems; I'm just really afraid of that 2 year Dr. supervised thing. Thank you again and Happy Holidays to you and yours! Good luck and best wishes! Blessed Be! Sherry
Hi Sherry,
I to got approved from medicaid after a appeal, it took 3 months, but your problem is not medicaid, it's Glas****s office, the man is so over booked they said they are now scheduling surgery for at least a year out. A year out my butt, I started this thing last Dec. and didn't even get a consultation till June, I am so close to going somewhere else it ain't funny, I can't even get them to start me on any pre testing but I will find something out come the 17th of this month, my daughter has a consulation with him but I am going as well and someone is going to talk to me and get their head out of their ass and get the ball rolling or this fat obese chunky woman is going to go mental on them, I so believe it's the medicaid thing, I really do. I know several who have just went to his seminar who have already had consult who have already either had or is scheduled surgery now I ask you, what would you be left to believe after almost a year waiting. Good luck girl, I hope it goes better for you than it has for me. Let us know ok. Take care of you.
