Question
I'm a preop. My surgery is December 22, with Dr. Eibes. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. BAD!!! I can't drink water or eat anything without having to run to the bathroom. Has anybody had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), did it go worse or better? If worse, what are you doing to make it feel better.
I am frustrated. I am also getting very nervous. I am excited, but my nerves are arriving.
Thank you for your input.

Lisa,
I had IBS, not severe enough to run to the bathroom every time I ate or drank anything, but it was definitely bad enough.
Personally, the only problems I have had since the surgery has been with dumping. Just from the sugar or greasy foods (which you probably already stay away from, considering your severe IBS)
I asked Eibes the VERY same question, will it get better or worse? he says every one is different. Personally though, it has gottena LOT better. But, still, about every 3 days, something triggers me, and I dump . Sometimes its sugars, sometimes its not. anyhow, good luck Lisa, Eibes is a GREAT doc, (I am down 120 lbs in 6 1/2 months) and I wouldnt worry too much. It can only get BETTER! honest!

Lisa,
When I went to our support group meeting in Nov, one of the folks who was about 11 months post-op talked about having IBS. She said that after surgery her syndrome became IBS with constipation. Apparently, she was so constipated that she almost had to have another surgery to get unstuck?! So she's now on medication - I don't remember the name but I've seen the commercials - and she said she's doing just great. - Just a thought - Deb W.
