Janet,
If you can, talk with Susan Rapp. She had surgery the same day I did with the same surgeon. She had a small leak and they did go in and repair it. I'm sure she can give you some insight on this.
Also, I have read someone's profile on OH where they did experience an explosion of the procedure of sorts. I believe she said they thought what happened was she had an ulcer on the back side of the duodenum - unseen at the time of surgery that 'exploded' just a day or so after surgery. She was still in the hospital and so they did manage to go back in and get it repaired. She spent many weeks inpatient and outpatient I believe, but she did live to tell about it. I think that is why if the doc has any question of prior stomach/ulcer problems, an EGD is done.
I'm very glad that I had mine done lap. I had never even been in the hospital other than the birth of my two kids so I was leary of an open procedure. I am hoping that I will experience no problems in the future and I feel pretty confident about that. I hope this info helps some. Best of luck to you! - Deb W.
