I just wondered if any of you visited with a nutritionist before the surgery or was it all just after. I just briefly spoke to a nutritionist at the initial information meeting before meeting with Dr. K. 12/16/03 is when I see pulmonologist and then if all okay will get a surgical date. Still getting nervous with rollercoaster ride this is. Am I doing the right thing, what if something happens, but if I don't I know it will just get worse. Thanks for the help.

I saw the nutricianist right before my initial consult with my surgeon. She explained what he allows us to eat before & after the surgery, problems that may arise & what to look for. She also told me what vitamins I will need to buy & how to take them. My initial consult was way last April so I have forgotten much of what she said so last week I called & asked to visit again with her & I am glad I did. My insurance probably won't cover it but it was worth it anyway. I am much more relaxed & really getting excited about my Dec 9 date. Dixie

I felt my visit to the nutritionist prior to my initial surgical consult with Dr Keating a complete waste of time and money. I obtained 10x the info from this website than I did at that meeting. For the same reasons I have not attended any of the post-op meetings either. If you are motivated enough to change, you will be motivated enough to research your individual needs from whatever sources you can find. You will do fine Leslea and are feeling many of the same emotions that the rest of us have felt! Yes you are normal! Yes it is normal to be nervous! Ask yourself what you could expect if your life kept going on the same track it is now as compared to what it might be with surgery. Surgery is only an event in this timeline we call life. The lifestyle change will be the difficult part. Make sure all your questions are answered to your satisfaction. That is the key to making this change really work. Knowledge overcomes fear and acceptance of the practices leads to success!
