I am an avid lurker of this board and try to provide post-op advice to the youngsters starting out when I can. Well I finally can post some good news about myself today. But first a little history. I had my RNY surgery on May 16th with Dr. Boe at the Bariatric Treatment Facility in Belvidere, IL. Even though it was a 3 hours drive from home, it was well worth it. When I started this journey I decided that I would control the scale and not let the scale control me. Becuase of this mentality I decided to only weigh myself every 3 months. I am 5'8" and started out at 273 pounds the day of surgery. I am now exactly 6 months post-op and have lost a total of 87 pounds. 47 pounds the first 3 months and another 40 pounds since August. My family doctor thinks my goal weight should be 170. Meaning I am only 16 pounds away from goal. I have had absolutely no complications, no dumping, no feeling sick, and no modd changes. I finally feel as though I have the body to match my personality!

Wooee, 16 lbs to goal. I don't blame you for doing the happy dance. How can you stand not to weigh your self more often?

Beverly, Actually it is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I do take measurements the first of each month. That helps to reinforce that I am losing (or adjusting) the weight. Just being able to see and feel that my clothes are getting looser on me is enough. I just knew if I started weighing myself that I would become obsessed with the scale. When I walk by the scale at the health club I just remind myself that I have the power now!

Janine, What a wonderful weight loss I hope I can get those kind of results after my surgery. I would be thrilled to lose 87 pounds. I am taking my scales to my daughters so I am not crawling on them all the time. Keep up the good work you'll be at goal in no time. Ann

Congrats, Janine!!! You must feel wonderful!! Hopefully, it will be me, soon! Can you tell me if BTC does distal or proximal rny? I called and they told me they do proximal. Please see Ann's post from this morning for my concerns. Any advice/info is appreciated. Thanks and God bless, Andrea
