One-month check-up
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I've been too tired to do anything but read posts. Here's the deal-- Had my one-month check-in with the surgeon and the nutritionist. I have lost 33 pounds thus far. I have been holding steady, but my body is readjusting, so I should be having a good loss pretty soon now. My blood pressure was 115/72 on 50 mg. atenolol and maxzide. The Diovan and 50 mg. atenolol are history. Dr. Sundberg said that when the BP goes below 110, we will eliminate something else, probably the maxzide. Diabetically speaking, I'm off everything.
The nutritionist doesn't like to hear about me experimenting with foods not on the soft-food list. She says I will not lose as quickly. But the surgeon is okay with it. As for the milk problem (I can't stand the taste or the feel of it in my mouth), she recommends eating cottage cheese or yogurt for my liquid protein snack-meals. She also attended a bariatrics nutrition seminar yesterday and now says that as long as I am getting 60 grams of protein in a day, it's enough for the healing. So I don't have to cram cram cram into my delicate tummy like I had been. I can get in 60 grams, no problem.
I don't have to see the surgeon next month-- just a call in, but will see him at three months. I don't have to see the nutritionist anymore, but she is available for questions at any time.
Hello Susan,
I have been watching your posts and posts about you, I am so glad things are starting to get better for you, I'm not a very religeous person but with all the problems you had I prayed for you. Heck yeah, sounds like it might just have worked. I'd like to think so anyway. I do have a question for you. How in the heck do you get 60 grams of protein in everyday? I have not yet had the surgery but getting all the proteins in scares me alot. Ok, enough yapping, Again, I am glad things are going better for you and I would love to lose 33 lbs. Take it easy and take care of you.~~~~~Tina
The magic element is eating high protein for your B, L, and D and then having a very high protein snack 3 times a day. Our nutritionist recommends double milk, i.e. 1/3 c. dry milk to 1 c. skim milk, giving 16 grams protein. I have a hard time with milk, but I will put dry milk powder in soup, in yogurt, in anything that will stand still. 16x3 is 48, so I only have to find 12 more grams. If I cut a few grams on my snacks, I up the ante on the meals.
