I just wondered how you told your employers you were having surgery and soon before hand you told them. I have not told mine yet, I did not want to say anything until I had a surgery date. It is almost impossible for me to get time off of work now so will be interesting to see what they have to say. Thanks. TOWANDA

I would wait til you have a surgery date personally, however my place of work knew I was trying to have the surgery, and they were accepting and positive about it. but, its the same as anything in life, why get excited and get ppl all excited when you dont even know when its going to happen. (like my dumb DM register article. I did it like 3 weeks ago, took the pics 2 weeks ago, so where is the flipping article? your guess is as good as mine? UGH UGH UGH) its hard for anyone to get time off work, but they cant *not* let you do it either! Judi

I told my employer 3 weeks before my surgery date. All I told them was that I had to have surgery. It is against the law for them to ask what type of surgery you are having. And they can't fire you for having to have surgery. I had surgery on October 20th and was back to work on the 29th. I had to take it without pay. I didn't have any vacation available. But to this day no one knows why I had surgery.

Leslea, I told my boss when I found out that things were moving towards surgery I told her that I was having the surgery if our insurance approved. When I got the surgery date I set it up with her I am the night full time person and so it is sort of hard to get people to replace me no one wants to come in from noon to 8. She is only having to cover me for about 8 days due to the winter break we have at the college I work at. I will be able to be off for almost 6 weeks with her only having to cover the 8 days so how could she refuse??? I have only told a few people where I work and I really don't want the students to know I think that will make you feel like your in a fish bowl everyone watching you all the time. Hope things work with your employer. Ann

My employer is very strict about such things - we're only allowed one day of scheduled absence per month without unfavorable documentation, so it's going to be fun trying to get time off - but I intend to have BTC give me a copy of the documentation proving my surgery date (and the dates of the required appointments beforehand) so that I can give them proof. I'm also going to try and have my blood gas tests, ekgs, etc etc done as close to the actual surgery date as possible.

Jumping the gun, I told my supervisor that I was planning surgery, didn't know the date, but would let her know. I need to give enough notice that they can modify my client list, so I cna get everything done I before I leave. since I only have 20 days per assessment, they have to stop giving me the assessments aobut a month prior almost, so I thought it only fair to give her and my coworkers notice. of course now the doctor is T a k i n g h i s t i m e s c h e d u l i n g t h e s u r g e r y(supposed to indicate movement as slow as molasses)LOL.
