Very disappointed with my surgeon

I called the office today to let the insurance gal know that I would be sending her more info. I asked what the surgeon had to say when she told him I had been denied. His response back to her was that since I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes, that I probably won't be approved. I am just livid! If he knew this, then why did he even waste my time and tell me at my appointment that I would probably be having my surgery in 6 weeks? One of the reasons I chose him (besides him being one of the best surgeons in the Midwest) was that I thought he really cared about his patients. But I guess he is just out for the money like the rest of them. He'll tell you to your face that this surgery is the best option for you, but when push comes to shove with the insurance, he won't even go to bat for you. Guess I may be checking out Dr. Schwartz instead.

I wouldn't give up! Why not talk to doc instead of insurance person? Call the insurance company & ask them. What is your BMI? Lot of questions to be asked & answered. Keep us posted & DON'T give up. ((((Hugs))))

Sheila- I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes and I got approved with a 54 BMI. I didn't even have strong documentation of a medically supervised diet for past two years. What I do have is sleep apnea and a strong FAMILY history of heart disease and diabetes so it is likely inevitable that I would develop at least one of those too. My best defense was to write a very extensive letter, a plea of sorts outlining my justification of need for the surgery. It ended up being 5 pages long and my surgeon was very impressed with it. He sent it along with his recommendation to the ins co and I was approved in two days. If you want an outline of what to write I would be glad to send it to you. Don't give up! There are lots of people and ideas out here to help!
