Has anyone gone to Iowa City ??
Hi Stacy. When I first started researching WLS, I contacted the surgeons in Iowa City and was informed that they have a 1 year waiting list for surgery. SO, I did some more checking and decided to go with Dr. Monte Schwartz in Grinnell. He is very knowledgable and in about 8 hours, I find out how good his work is. LOL. Good luck~Tammy
Stacy! It's good to see you again! I was wondering what happened to you. I was going to go with the Univ at first but then my ins changed and UIH is not on the provider list. I was also told it would be a one year wait. I have heard that Dr Maher has a difficult pre-op program you are required to follow. As you already know I went through Dr Robert Keating in Cedar Rapids and St Lukes Hospital. It took about 2 months to see him and a total of only about 4 1/2 months from 1st consult to surgery date. I would highly recommend him.

I had my wls Sept 15 at UofI - totally awesome!! I have lost 50 lbs. They are strict, but want to make sure you won't fail. I had Dr Samuel and he was super. They are concerned about your well being fore most. It actually took me a full yr to get the surgery, but that was because I was denied 3 times by my ins company before they finally approved it. I think after you get in for your initial consult, you could be scheduled with in 3 months.
Stacy:
I had my surgery with Dr. Maher in Iowa City. He is the best. He really knows what he is doing and more importantly, he is not in it for the money. Yes, they say that there is a 1 year waiting list, but you can request that you are put on their cancellation list. That is what I did and was seen within 2 months. Whomever you decide on, please be sure that you have total confidence in your doctor. He holds your life in his hands!
Best of luck,
Jennifer
