Need to WHINE a little!
Well, I went for my pre-op physical this morning. My PCP has decided she wants me to see a heart specialist before she will OK the surgery. I've had a heart murmur for awhile, but she felt it was getting worse, and wanted to have me checked out prior to the surgery. They can't get me in for the ultrasound and angiogram until 10/27, so it looks like we'll have to change my 10/28 surgery date. I'm frustrated with the delay, but I keep telling myself that at least then we'll know that everything is OK before I go for the surgery. I just wish we could get it done, because I had things cleared from my calendar at work, and will now probably have to do some rearranging to find a time that will work.
Shelly-
Even though it must be really frustrating to have to rearrange your calendar to find a new surgery date, being safe and healthy for your surgery is the most important thing. Your PCP is obviously really looking out for you- sounds like you are in good hands. In the long run, waiting a couple weeks to have the surgery will seem like nothing, especially knowing the tradeoff is keeping you safe! I'll be thinking of you- let us know how it goes on the 27th. Take care.

I had the exact same thing happen and it WAS frustrating but it only delayed my surgery by one week. The frustrating part was that I was all psyched up for that particular date and it was a letdown for it not to happen then. But in the overall picture, the date is a mere dot in your lifetime so hang in there! If there is anything serious, you would have wanted it addressed anyway just to be on the safe side!
I know it is hard to plan on a date and then not have it happen, but you don't want any surprises during or right after surgery. I think with the recent bad publicity they just want to play it safe, and hey--its your life, so you should be happy they want to play it safe. take care, and the date will be reset and you will be skinnier before you know it.
