Boy, did I miss not checking out this website the last 10 days. I've been struggling with my home computer since I left for surgery on Oct. 6th but am happy to report that I'm back on-line again. Surgery was quite the experience but I'm sure glad I am this far down the road to recovery. I had an Open RNY done so the 35 staples running north to south on my belly is quite interesting. The most painful part of my experience has been the removal of the 2 drain tubes I had, one on each side of my incision. It was not pleasant at all but they came out 15 minutes before I went home on Thurs. Oct. 9th so I was just happy to be going home so it made things all the better. Now, I struggle with sleeping at night but have found that putting a small pillow under my belly when I sleep on my side helps A LOT and I also struggle with getting in the foods...I'm just not hungry at all. Except for the homemade cookies the church ladies brought over yesterday....had to have them removed from my house, I had surgery on my stomach, not my mind!!! Anyway, glad to be back and will keep watch on the board while I'm home for the next few weeks! Take care! Wendy 10/6/03 Open RNY

I'm glad your home Wendy and wishing you all the best. I can relate to the food thing. I had surgery Sept.18 and I still have trouble with my mind telling me you have to have it versus my stomach saying no way. Remember to rest and take it easy. Welcome to the losing side!

Good to hear another fellow board member is out and learning to survive in their new world! I can't believe those church ladies! That was very sweet of them but obviously they don't have a clue! It gets easier to be around food as time goes on. The hardest one was the first time I went with my family out to eat. I was still on full liquids so there was nothing on the menu I could have. I sipped my hot tea while they gorged on beer batter fish! Even the wildest imagination can't convert tea into fried fish! LOL! I used to be a pizzaholic but haven't had any since surgery and the sight of it does not drive me crazy. Figure that? This is a whole new world! Lately I'm hearing myself say something I used to be very envious of hearing from skinny minnies; "I JUST can't eat another bite of that!" (as I leave half of everything on a child-size plate) We have a lot to look forward to! Hope your journey goes well!

It's great to hear you're doing well-I laughed out loud about the cookies I know exactly what you mean...someone brought me brownies from our church. It took me about 2.5 weekes to sleep throught the night in our recliner and a month to sleep through the night in my bed. That was the hardest thing...I felt like I had just had a c-section again and I was up with the kids. I pray your sleep goes well and your recovery is good Deb Paul

It's great to hear you are home and doing great! I had to snicker at the cookie thing. My Granny used to do things like that all the time and if she were here, I'm sure I could have expected them upon my return home from my surgery. LOL. They all mean so well though I hope your recovery continues to be successful and EVENT FREE You take care!
