Dr. Akella Chendrasekhar
Two physicians performed most of the bariatric bypass surgeries at Methodist, a hospital leader said. One of them, Dr. Akella Chendrasekhar, has decided to quit performing them, according to a statement from his employer, the Iowa Clinic. A clinic spokeswoman said Chendrasekhar was in India on Friday visiting an ill relative.
Court records show that Chendrasekhar faces a lawsuit over a 2001 death involving the same operation. The lawsuit says Glenda Hernandez, 36, of Des Moines died a week after the surgeon performed the procedure on her at Metropolitan Medical Center. Hernandez never regained the ability to breathe on her own, the suit says.
What the court records do not show ! Is that she died after her surgery she was placed on a vent because she had developed amonia and could not breath on her own which is not that uncommon ( she was a very heavy smoker ) she became aggravated during the night and her movements knocked out her trach which went unnoticed by the nursing staff causing her death!! I know this because my wife worked with her and her husband at the post office so to me this would sound more like the responsibility of the hospital not the doctor!!!
