Already anxious
I had my first consult on Friday, October 3, 2003. I KNOW I shouldn't expect to hear anything so soon, but am getting anxious. then I read posts and see where doctor's offices for get to send things in and insurance companies "mislay" papers--when can I start calling without being a pest?
I don't know if it matters, but it was Dr. Eibes. Oh on another note, I had talked to my PCP a month ago and he was discouraging about the surgery--wanted me to know all the complications, etc...Yesterday I told him I was researching, and had contacted a surgeon. He became upset wanting to make sure I made a good choice in a surgeon--He doesn't want to lose me (that is kind of sweet), but how does anyone know about surgeons. Anyway I am getting anxious and I am not even close to having a date.
also I don't think there is any question about my being accepted. my BMI was over 60 and I have plenty of co-morbidities.
Thanx for letting me ramble.

I have Dr.Schwartz who is in the same practice as your surgeon and I didn't have a problem with the approval. But I did get anxious after a week and called to check that they had sent everything in. They didn't seem to mind the call and the next week I had my approval. You can go to there website at www.grinnellsurgeons.com and read about your surgeon too. If it's going to make you feel better I would call and make sure that everything got sent in and they had all the info. they needed.

It's absolutely normal to be anxious at this stage in the game. One never knows what those ins companies are going to throw at you! It's kind of flattering to have your PCP react so strongly-he must be a very caring doctor. Don't be discouraged if the ins company requires more info- it sounds like you fit the critieria and that would just be a mere bump in the road to jump over. Will be waiting to hear more from you like..... GUESS WHAT? I'M APPROVED!!!!
I believe that fear and worry stems from not enough info. This surgery is fairly new. There was even a malabsorptive surgery about 10 years ago, where they would bypass almost all of your small intestine, and people got very sick....a lot of peope, even doctors, don't know that much about this surgery. Have faith, this surgery is safe, you have a great surgeon! I have BC/BS. It took them a month to call me to schedule and it took them 3 weeks to call my husband to schedule a surgery date. We both had Dr. Schwartz.
