Change in surgeries

I am wondering if anyone, after having the initial consultation, changed from one surgery to another? I have not heard yet whether or not my insurance has approved the operation, but they are having me see the hospital psychiatrist tomorrow, so to me it sounds as if I did get approved. The first surgery of choice was the Lap Band, but after some more consideration I am leaning more towards the Roux N Y. So just curious to see if anyone else has ran into this dilema.

I think it can work both ways. I was considering the lap band, but I lurked around some message boards and decided there was too much danger of not losing, plus you have to go every so often and get your band readjusted and I decided I like the idea of a permanent loss as opposed to a temporary loss if you don't go get your fill. they also don't seem to dump--which personally I am counting on to limit my sugar intake!

Hi Sharon- At first I was bent on getting the VGB and in fact had my consult with the surgeon set up but at the risk of delaying the process I changed to the RNY. Dawn Phillips is a good person to talk to about that. Her description of food dripping from the small pouch into the large one driving her crazy with hunger was enough to turn me around. Also she gained back all her weight in a short time and had to undergo a revision to RNY. My RNY was 8-11-03 and I do not regret it. I feel full with amounts I used to see "skinny" girls eat. Since I started with a high BMI(54) I needed the malabsorption factor to help me lose as well. I have lost close to 50# and feel great. I get nauseated if I eat too much, do not chew well enough, or eat something I am not supposed to which is the type of "diet policing" I have needed all my life! Now I am more selective about what I eat and I enjoy what I eat more. I am learning to eat to live instead of live to eat!

OH WOW, man if I would feel food dropping into the larger portion of my stomach it will drive me up a wall!!! I want to lose the weight faster and the band isn't going to give me that option. I will email Dawn and find out more. I want to do it right the first time and not have to go under the knife more than what is needed! Thank you so much for your input. It is greatly appreciated.
