did mine in grinnell too ( I think thats where you two went, isnt it deb?) no epidural, and no drainage. ! Very easy, just like a normal abdominal surgery, cut me open, do the stuff, staple me back up. only prob I had was after the 3rd day my IV went bad, and they wanted to put another one in for the last 24 hours in the hospital, and I said NO THANKS lol I hate HATE needles. I said I will deal with pill pain meds if I need something. only problem was that night I got nauseous and dry heaved, and they didnt have an order for anything to take by mouth, only IV stuff, so I had to just get through it on my own. no fun, but now that it is all done, I am so dang happy. 100 lbs gone, another 100 to go! and only 5 months out ! I had 2 drainage tubes, one was taken out in the hospital as it was leaking so bad around the site that it was not working. The other was taken out about 1 week post op in the Drs. office. I didn't have an epidural but I did have a pca pump. I had surgery on Wed. and was home Sat. night so 4 days in the hospital. I had the open procedure and felt my stay was very short compared to some of them. I hope that this helps. Stephanie open RNY 6/18/03 -86.4 pds
