writing to legislator
Stacy- Here are the emails of two Iowa state senators who are known to be movers and shakers, especially Chuck Grassley. He has been a great advocate for people with health/ins issues. Might not even hurt to contact your local newspaper/Des Moines Register to see if they would want to pick up your story. It's a human interest story that you don't see much written about but judging from the number of people on this website, there are hundreds going through it all the time!

Good luck!
Sorry to hear about your insurance problems. I am having the same problems in that I have nothing documented that says I have done 6 months of Dr. supervised weight loss in the last 3 years. Even though my Dr. has said that he has never done a Dr. supervised weight loss program through his office. I appealed to the insurance company, Health Alliance and it was denied, I appealed to the HR dept. in the hospital where I work and they denied it so now I am going to appeal to the state insurance commisioner. I am fortunate thought in that I was also covered under my wife's insurance and I went ahead and had the surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago. My insurance in my primary and I feel that they should pay. They say that they don't care that I meet all of the medical needs for surgery and that I have 3 diff. Dr. that say I should have it done and have written letters for me. The other thing is that I work in a hospital, Mary Greeley Med. Center in Ames, and the procedure is done here. You can appeal to the state and then and independent reviewer will look at everything. Good Luck, I understand how you feel. Insurance should look at the medical need first.
