This is my first time posting and just have a few questions for those that have had surgery. I have my big day Thurs, Sept. 18, and I am feeling quite anxious, scared and very unsure of this all. Are these feelings normal? I know WLS is the only way for me to start a new life but I still have my reserves. The biggest thing is that surgery is finally going to happen and I am going to be free from this fat burden. How long did it take before you felt like doing things after surgery? The reason I ask is because my hubby and I are fire safety clowns and fire prevention week is our "big" activity week and that is Oct. 4-10. Should I keep the dates or are you still in alot of pain then?

Of course it's normal! You are about to take one of the biggest steps in your life! All I really wanted was to eat what I wanted, when I wanted and not gain an ounce. That wasn't working for me, so I did the only option left to me. I had surgery July 9, and have lost 60 pounds to date. I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery, but sitting in a chair and answering the phone are a lot less physical than being a clown! I still have days when I am blue, or feeling sorry for myself and have a little pity party all by myself because I can't eat something. But for the most part, I'm really pleased with how I look and especially how I feel! There for awhile, I couldn't even shop for 10 minurtes. Now I'm working on my black belt in the subject! You'll do fine! Keep your sunny side up! Jeri

I had surgery 9-3-03. I have had no pain at all and I feel good, but I get tired very easily. I don't go back to wor****il 9-24 and I work in a hospital. The other day I went outside and watered some plants and messed around in the yard, no hard work and was very tired after 1 hr. You will just have to take as you feel, don't do more than you feel comfortable doing. Best of Luck to you. It is very normal to feel scared and anxious, that is part of going into any surgery. Just remember that the Lord is with you. Jim

Shelly, Alot depends on if you are having Laproscopic or OPEN surgery. And for some, the Laproscopic sometimes turns into an open due to complications. I had OPEN surgery, and I wasn't feeling like doing much until 4 weeks after surgery. I went back to work 3 wks after surgery but i have a desk job. Your feelings are TOTALLY normal. I was such a psyco ***** before sugery it wasn't even funny. It's a wonder that my hubby didn't leave me! I was tense, worried, happy, sad, frightened, excited... and much more. Mood swings BIGTIME, and just wanting to get it OVER WITH! So yes, what you are feeling is very very normal, and don't hesitate to vent on us some of those feelings...as we vented when we were in your spot. ~~~Dawn Phillips -- Fort Dodge, Iowa
