The Dumping Experience

Just wanted to post a real-life experience so the rest of you can avoid what happened to me! As many of you know my recovery(1mon/-34# today!) has been relatively uneventful. Since things have been going so well I have gradually added new foods. But one night I pushed it just a little bit too far. I had to work late till 3am.. About 11:30 I ate a whole protein bar PLUS at least 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. In retrospect I should have eaten only half of that. At 2:15am it hit me. My lower guts felt like a giant hand was twisting them inside out. This went on for well over an hour during which time I was very tempted to go through ER but held off due to my $100 copay. I went home and sat in a hot bathtub for another hour until the cramps subsided. Some nausea, lots of gas bubbles but thankfully no vomiting. The next day I was exhausted, still gassy, and abdomen was very tender. It too****il the day after till I felt back to normal. Needless to say I immediately backed off on my eating and concentrated on liquids again which has helped immensely. So word to the wise.... take things slow and easy. Don't push your limits or you will pay the price!

Thanks for the insight, I am curious, with your work schedule are you eating enough to keep yourself energized? of course 34# gone forever is going to help for sure, but am I just thinking fat--that we have to eat to fuel our machines?

I am not sure if you had this experience because you over ate or because of what you ate. Usually I get it from what I eat. Even if I drink a regular pop, like yesterday, my stomach was upset, all they had was regular 7 up, so I thought, ok, I can do that. drink it slow, the bubbles do help my tummy to feel better. WRONG I WAS> about an hour later, in the bathroom, sweating, bent over, sitting on the stool, sicker then a dang dog. (Did anyone EVER realize how much one human can *dump*?) Its not humanly possible I think, every time I Have this dumb dumping experience, which is about 2-3 times a week. (sometimes) how can just one can of 7 up make one person so dang sick, but I can eat a few bites of things I really reall shouldnt, and it doesnt affect me at all! Because I had this surgery to change my life!!! and it has! 92 lbs gone forever today, almost 4 mos ago today. ! but, I hate the dumping! !!!!! lol. just my 2 cents worth! Judi
