I have been on this site a while and interested in information about the first five weeks after surgery. What did most you have to drink or eat ect... I have to have boost breeze, water, and broth for the first week. Than full liquid diet after that until the 28 th day. Than puree foods for two week. At that time I am to start in intorduce new foods slowly. I am interested to hear what everyone eles have gone through. I am down 12 pounds on day 5. I am happy with this...

Hi Lisa- I'm 4 weeks post-op and I am eating cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, egg salad, and scrambled egg with 1/2 slice toast, to name a few. The other day I had 1/2 serving of Burger King chili with no ill effects and have nibbled on a couple bites of grilled chicken and hamburger. I also drink 12 oz of protein drink daily fortified with a banana and dry milk and a V8 which helps me get some veggie vitamins in. I am taking it slower than I probably have to. Something I read about advancing too fast really scared me. It said if you don't give your stomach opening adequate time to heal and start eating coarse foods too early, the food can irritate the opening causing scarring which can narrow it and eventually result in the need for the opening to be stretched. I am satisfied with what I am eating for now and am very slowly adding other foods, just taking a bite of what my family is having and chewing it thoroughly. Congrats on the 12#! A good start!

Hey Lisa, I'm so excited on your loss!!! Every doc is different..you can also call the nutricianist that spoke to you before your surgery. Jason was on pureed foods for the 1st 4 weeks. Most fruits he pureed inside his mouth after the 1st 2 weeks. He ate yogurt at about every meal, he also liked boxed mashed potatoes (they go down better). He also ate a lot of jello and his protein drinks. He also ate lowfat cottage cheese and colby cheese off a block cheese (he chewed it very well) he had no problems until he startd eating solids this past week. He has eaten a lot of different types meat, and had a problem a couple of times, for not chewing it up good enough. He threw up both times and felt better immediately after he threw up. Now he eats everything except fatty food and sugar. He still feels full after about 1/2 cup of food.

Lisa, Here is the plan my doctor follows: Week 1 - Clear Liquids; Weeks 2 & 3 - Full Liquids (i.e. inlcudes high protein pudding, cream soups, except for tomato) Weeks 4 & 5 - Pureed Foods (anything I wanted as long as I pureed it in the blender) Week 6 - Soft Foods (eggs, etc.). The second week of full liquids was hte hardest, since I really missed chewing. Once I made it past that week I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Best of luck to you! - Janine
