questions please answer

Hi! I am Kristy (my email is [email protected]) I live in Cedar Rapids,IA. I am on title 19 the pink card. (it is iowa health solutions) I am 5'6 355lbs (at last weight check) I dont have a dr because I cant find one that accepts title 19. I am wondering with poeple who have title 19 what did you have to go through and how did you get it approved. Also what type of surgery did you have?

Hi Kristy, I to am on title 19, the green card as well as medicare. I am finding it really diffucult to get an approval. There are several who have been approved. Contact Elizabeth Hiatt on this messageboard, she is very knowledgeable about this stuff, she's really easy and great to talk to, maybe she can tell you more. Good luck on your journey. hello, Kristy i'm from clinton iowa i'm on title 19 too i went through dr. mcfarlin in moline illinois i got approved with in a month shes really good and understanding i had my surgey back in april and lost 82 pounds. if you have any questions email me at [email protected] Laurie

Kristy, I live in Cedar Rapids as well Have you called U of Iowa. That is where I am going to have mine. I have BC/BS but I am sure they take Title 19. I am having RNY LAP. Lisa J

Hi Kristy, Having the pink card you will need to contact your Medicaid Hmo and find out what surgeons they have in network. I would ask them if you find out that no one in the network does this surgery what is your next option. Also, contact your local Dept. of Human Services in your local county and ask them if they know of any doctors in your area who does this surgery. Another good starting point is to call the Managed Care office at Medicaid @ 800-338-9154 and ask them what surgeons are in the Iowa Health Solutions network and start calling each doc. and see if they are doing this procedure. If you run into a dead end then talk with your HMO to find out how you can apply for an Exception to Policy. If you feel you need more help then the phone rep. can give you ask to speak to the lead or supervisor. Good Luck.... and don't get discouraged.
