Deb, What I found is that when on a liquid/pureed diet my stools were very runny. Once I moved to more solid food and began chewing my stools hardened up a little. The one thing I have found that makes me gassy is foods with a higher fat content (like a hot dog). Hope this helps. - Janine

I am the GAS QUEEN now... I think farting is funny so I have never tried to pin down what food gives it to me, and it doesn't give me any discomfort. My stools are pretty solid, but not as much... does that make sense? The less you eat, the less you duke, I guess. Depending on what foods I have, I do have runny stools too. Probably once a day at least. I also "go" more often than I used to. OK that was a disgusting topic, but I did get to type "fart" on this message board so I guess it all works out in the "end"... Har Har Har!~Julie

Well...in following Julie's lead...im gonna get to the "bottom" of it right away... My stools have been the total opposite. I only go about every 2-3 days and they are SOLID SOLID owwWWWWW...if i dont take a stool softener. I guess everyone is different. I WAS very gassy and OMG did it smell.. sooo embarrassing...but now im not. ~~Dawn

I had the same questions after surgery!!! Boy oh boy did I change in the bathroom way! First, it was runny and horrible for a week or so. Then, it did solid up a bit, and still has, but I still dont go very often. I can go a whole week or so without a bm. But, certain foods with some grease, and I have to go then! gas, I dont have a LOT of, but what I do, peeeeeeeeyouuuuuuuuu, good thing I am not married or anything, LOL. I hope that goes away with time! but yes, bowels change a GREAT deal with surgery! if you get worried about stuff, talk with the doc, but I am sure everything will be fine Judi

I have both solid and runny. In fact, about a year ago I had an embarassing situation, thank god no one else knew about it but myself. I walking for exercise, I usually do 60 minutes, and about 45 min into the walk the urge came on. I thought I could just "fart" well no, it was crap. Ran down my leg and into my shoe. I couldn't get home fast enough, gross!!!! I have found that the more carbs I eat the gassier and more bloated I am though. If my sugar intake is too high my crap is runnier. So, evaluate what hubby is eating. Is he drinking fruit juices, or protein drinks such as Slim Fast or Ensure? What about sugared yogurts popsicles etc?

Hello. I am just shy of a week post op. I talked to my cousin because I got scared I hadn't gone yet. She told me that everyone is different. She asked if I was walking but the answer was no because my mom was keeping me down afraid I would rip something. So I hadn't moved around enough... went to walk around wallyworld and BAM! Lots of gas and by the end of the day a BM! The gas is normal.. your husband needs to get out and walk to get it out out him. The more he walks the better he will feel.... at least there are 2 of us who can prove that.
