Hi, The posts out here are so informative and uplifting. I have several questions and I would appreciate anyones input. I've read were several of you are going to a physical therapist post op. My doctor has not mentioned this. Are you doctors recommending this for you. It makes sense. Also, my surgery will be open RNY and I'm wondering how many days in the hosp you spent for those of you having the open RNY? I can hardly stand myself because I'm so excited. Thanks for listening. Patti, as you know I am pre-op and I have physical therapy for my fibromyalgia and osteo-arthritis. I haven't heard anything about A.C. recommending this post-op , but I would imagine he might if you will have a hard time exercising in the usual manner. like walking with out pain etc. The paperwork from A.C. also says to expect 3-5 days in hospital after open RNY. Hopes this helps a little. Elizabeth

Patti, Yes, my surgeon has physical therapy as a part of his post op support network. We have to pay a $250 fee pre op that includes our protein shakes for the first 2 weeks and physical therapy for 2 weeks after surgery. I have 18 visits paid for out of the remainder of my money. I see the physical therapist for 6 visits over 2 weeks. Then after that I'm on my own for the rest of the 12 weeks. Using their exercise room and keeping a record of the machines I use and at what levels and endurances. After the 12 weeks we get a special price to continue at ($3 an hour session). I have noticed that the physical therapy has improved my muscles as they were really really weak after the surgery and my bout in the hospital AGAIN right after surgery due to my diabetes. (lord...i dont know how those people who come out of year long coma's DO IT!!! I felt weak as a kitten!) I spent 4 days/ 3 nights in the hosp. after my open RNY. Hope this helped! Good luck! Your friend in WLS ~~~Dawn ~~~
