When I started the WLS journey I went to BTC and they sumitted my insurance for approval. I recieved an Approval to have surgery just with a in netwrk Doctor. So I went to the Uof Iowa. While I have to get reapproved and this time they have changed there guidelines. Blue Cross/ Blue Shield is now requiring 2 Years of document diet failure. While Everything has been sent off for approval. I am worried I will be denied on this on change. I have a date set for Sept 2. I have been through all my pre-testing. Can you believe the hoops we all have to jump through. I just feel that this is another way obese people are discriminated against. I have been overweight 15 years. Don't they realize I would have changed this my now. Well, I guess ranting isn't going to change the fact I will just have to wait. I should know in about 48 hours. I will let you all know. Thanks Lisa

Is this a new rule for BC/BS? H ow new? My husband was approved within 2 weeks from BC/BS in June. No problems...I'm waiting for my approval now, but I have not heard about any changes. We did have to fill out a form telling about previous diets, but no proof was required for the insurance company. good luck, Deb

Hi Lisa, i so totally agree with you on this insurance crap, a person pays an outrageous premimum to these damn places for quite awhile and the crap you have to do to get them to pay out is stupid, it's YOUR money, you paid into it, it's all a huge conspiracy just to get that all mighty buck and especially against obesity. I just wonder if one of those stiff shirt ****heads had to go threw what we go threw on a daily basis and if they decide this surgery is their only option left, besides death, if they would have to go threw the same crap to get them to pay as we do? Well, I tend to think not, at least not to this extreme anyway. It's all just bull, nothin' less. I also agree that this is our last ditch effort for survival and my god they should know that we don't want to be this way, it's not our life long dream to be obese, hell who in their right mind would want to be like this. They want you to do some really stupid things, the diet thing for 2 yrs. What a fricken' joke, they can't possibly be that stupid to think we have not tried everything from A to Z. Ok, sorry Lisa, gotta a bit bent here didn't I? I hope everything works out for you, I'm sure it will. Let us know ok. Take care of you. Tina

Lisa, Sorry t o hear your ins carrier is being such a pain. You would think once they had approved you that would be it . I have BC/BS Alliance Select and I got my approval within 2 days of the time it was submitted by my pcp in Rochester. Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer that it all works out for ya.
