Hi everyone. I'm 3 weeks post op, and for the most part doing fine. I have to remember to eat- I really don't have much appetite- which is OK! My question is, how do you know when to advance your diet. I got tired of pureed things, and have started to become a little more adventurous. I had half a grilled cheese sandwich tonight. Is that too much? I don't want to mess this up! It's really my last chance to lose some of this 370 pounds I've been carrying. I had a VBG 20 years ago, and lost about 60 pounds. Since then I gained it and more back. I don't yet eat 6-8 times a day- lucky if I get 3 meals in. Do I have to watch the bread and other carbs closely? HELP! Jeri

Hi Jeri! My name is Dawn, and I am just about the same post op as you! I too had a revision from a VBG 7 yrs ago. I started at 304 and have lost 24 lbs (im at 280 now). My surgery was on July 10th..and at my Dr. appt today he released me to eat whatever.. just make sure it's high protein and low fat. They want me to consume less than 20g of fat in a day. The grilled cheese sandwich is ok as long as you dont make a habit of it... think of it this way... if your not hungry..and you dont need the bread.. why eat it? Instead try a salmon pattie with cheese (low fat or 2% milk cheese) melted over it... or hamburger (i just tried some ground beef and found that i can tolerate it..but only about a tablespoon worth.) I too have consumed some carbs that i really didn't need lately... we had sweet corn..mmmmmm...i only had about a quarter of an ear..and it was SCRUMPTIOUS! But i felt soo guilty afterwards! The Nurse at Dr. VerSteeg's office told me that a day or two here or there that I dont get in at least 50g of protien is ok..but not to make a habit of it. They told me.... high protein, low fat.. less than 1000 calories a day..and i will continue to lose. Hope this helped Also..when i have tuna with light miricle whip and shredded cheese..i eat it with a fork instead of with crackers... cutting out those carbs helps. ~Dawn
