Bariatric Treatment Centers

If anyone is thinking of going to a Bariatric Treatment Center for surgery and has questions I would be happy to help. I went tot he facility in Belvidere and had surgery on 5/16/03. I was very impressed with the facility, surgeons, and followup care (both surgically and dietary). If this is somehting you are thinking about and have questions feel free to e-mail me. - Janine

Hi...I'm glad you had a good experience with BTC. I had a mess with them, not returning phone calls etc. I had to reschedule surgery due to cardiac problems and I left 10+ messages and no one ever called me back. Then they called me the day I was supposed to be there for preop asking why I wasn't there and then they asked if I wanted to reschedule...of course I said no. To add insult to injury, two weeks after what had been my scheduled surgery date I received a little note froma patient rep wishing me well now that my surgery was over. I emailed them and expressed my concerns with their lack of knowing what was going on and recieved no response. I think they are just a little too corporate for my taste. I had surgery at Grinnell Regional 7/16/03 and had a fantastic experience there with every aspect of my surgery. I guess every situation and person is different. Good Luck!

There are a few people from my suuport group that went to the BTC and had a good experience there... the only thing that I heard that worried me was they have no ICU for any complications that might arise from the surgery. I do not know this to be fact since I did not go there, but one member of our group said that if you needed ICU care they would bundle you up in an ambulance and take you to a hospital. I was worried about moving someone in that kind of condition, so it might be something worth asking about if it is true. Did they discuss this with you or is it just a story I heard?
