Hi everyone,
This is my first time on the messageboard. What a neat support group. I have a rider on my insurance because of weight and have just been turned down from my insurance company for the surjery. Is there any hope of getting them to accept this surjery with this rider or am I wasting my time. I would like to have the RYN done at Sioux Falls, SD. Still debating on a doctor but looking at Dr Harris and Dr. O'Brian. One believes in the open surjery and one Lap. Does anyone out there have feedback as to which is the best. Thanks! Susie

Welcome to the group! I had an open RNY done July 17, 2002 and I did talk to my surgeon about a lap RNY, he said that it takes a few hours longer and he finds that 1 in 6 ends up becoming an open rny because of complications. I opted for the open and would do it again tomorrow. I have lost 163 pounds FOREVER! Good luck to you and keep us updated!! ~Julie
