Has anyone out there pursued plastic surgery post-op? like tummy tuck, breast lift, etc... Successful in getting the ins co to pay? What kind of things are they looking for to justify payment? e.g. What qualifies it as "medically necessary?"

Michelle, I have heard in numerous posts from some of my Yahoo groups im in that lower back pain and a really bad rash in the folds of extra skin can be good reasons for ins. approval. (my hubby said.."dang..just put a piece of sandpaper in your pants for a couple days and say "heyyy i got a hugge rash..lol" men...go figure) ~~Dawn

I had a panniculectomy done in Nov. Dr. Coster did the letter to the ins co. I also had a hernia repair, so don't know if that helped the approval. Most people say a rash under the pannis, so don't cleanse well. They take pictures to submit too. Afriend of mine had TT and boob job and her PS said that he wouldn't be surprised if ins co stopped approving the PS because so many people will be having it done. She had a boob job and they are looking for back ache etc.

I will hopefully be able to answer your questions even better tomorrow, since that is when I am going to be having my plastic surgery consult.. I am so nervous! I have great insurance and I am hoping that they will cover it, I can LIVE with myself looking this way, but I do have back aches and am self concsious of my sagging belly. I am looking at having an abdominoplasty, boob lift, thighs and arms. I am going to try for everything and if the insurance doesn't pay for it, that's ok I can still appeal!! ~Julie
