Protein Drinks???
I feel that I need to say that I am not a dietician and that you should always follow the advice of your dietician rather some crazy girl from Iowa BUT... I have never been able to tolerate protein shakes or drinks. There are a few out there that are supposedly not too bad- I out and out told my Dr. that I was not going to drink them and he said that I shoudl try to get my protein from my food as much as possible. I am 11 months post op and every time my bloodwork is done everything has been fine so far. There is a prduct that you can add to your food I think it is called beneprotein- I was told you could get it at TPC cash n carry in Davenport- if interested I will find out more information for you... basically it is powdered egg whites. It has no taste but if you add it to liquids it makes them cloudy. It is the protein additive that they put in your hospital food if you have surgery in Trinity North in Davenport Iowa. People add it to mashed potatoes, hot and cold cereal, skim milk, just about anything you can think of. It boosts any meal up to 8 grams higher in protein. Anywa, hope that helped. ~~Julie
OK, here I am going to step on my soap box. I am very opinionated. SF carnation instant breakfast and powdered milk, Ensure and the like are NOT protein drinks. They have sugar, milk has sugar etc. Protein needs to be pure whey protein. They sell the stuff at GNC and the likes, read the labels and get ones without carbs. I buy Proscore 100, Nectar, Zero carg Isopure from vitalady. She sells protein samples, so you arent' stuck with a whole jug. www.vitalady.com and read what she has to say about protein.
Lisa, I began drinking protein drinks about a month before my surgery, since I read that it heals with the healing process. I would suggest buying from the GNC, since they have a policy that allows you to return it if you don't like it. I use the Designer Whey line and found that I like their taste the best. However everyone is different. - Janine
