Yet Another East-Central Iowan

Hi all, Robert here. I didn' t even know there was an Iowa message board until I got the email from the site yesterday regarding all the new features and look. As you can see from my profile, I'm from the Vinton area (near Cedar Rapids). I had RNY at Mercy Hospital on April 14th 2003, and am down 68 pounds so far. That part feels good even though I'm far from totally recovered yet. Still having problems with the meat/poultry thing, and that "stuck" feeling at the bottom of my throat every once in a while ... you know that feeling ... the one that means you'd better have a bowl nearby for the next few hours. Oh well, I guess from what I've read that it will eventuallly pass. I know my profile says I've still got a "date scheduled." For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to get the system to know I've already had the surgery. I've even asked the site and they can't seem to figure out what I'm asking them. Geesch! Anyway, feel free to write me if you want. I'm always glad to share thoughts and feelings with anyone whose planning on going through this, or already has. Most of us know it's not easy, but for me it had to be done ... just look at my pre-op pictures! My goal is 210, and I've got about another 105 to go. I think I'll make it. Can't wait to go back to where I buy dress slacks and take them home right off the rack for the first time in 20-some years. Peace, love, happiness, and good health to all.

Hi Robert! Congradulations on "being on the other side" and your significant weight loss to date! The fact that Dr. Keating was your surgeon drew my interest because he is mine too. I had the exact same impression of him and I agree that "8" on a scale of 1-10 describes him perfectly. I will be looking forward to seeing your "after" pic! My insurance co(John Deere Choice) has approved and I am waiting for a surgery date- will likely be in August. I too am perusing clothing racks of sizes I haven't seen for many years- but knowing I will be able to fit into them by this time next year gives me something to look forward to! Good luck in your continuing efforts and new life!!! Michelle from Cedar Rapids

My name is Dawn and I'm from the Fort Dodge area. Welcome to our little group! It's nice to see a MAN around here.. seems like it's just us girls most of the time! My surgery date is scheduled for the 10th of July..and It's FABULOUS to hear the success of others to keep a girl from chickening out at the last moment! Hope to hear more from you on a regular basis! ~~~Dawn~~~

Welcome Robert, I hope all is going well with your after care, I have been post op for 11 monthes today and have lost about 151 pounds. I feel GREAT! I was not able to eat beef until just recently, I felt horrid every time I tried. My dietician said that you can ask your butcher to double grind your ground beef, sometimes that works a bit better for some people. Good luck, and make sure to post any questions, milestones or news for us!! Take care! ~Julie
