QUESTIONS- in honor of those who are getting dates (more)
Why did you choose the doctor you are going to? What type of surgery are you having? What will be the hardest thing to "give up", food wise? Do you have any questions that you are either afraid to ask or think are so silly that you are embarrassed to ask? Ask 'em anyway!! Finally, are you keeping this surgery a secret to anyone and why? ~Julie
I found Dr. Stoner on this website and got his phone number off this website. I had an open RNY on July 17th, 2002. The hardest thing for me to give up was Blizzards from DQ. I was afraid of asking about my monthly visitor, and I wished I would have! Even though Aunt Flo was not supposed to visit for 2 weeks after my surgery, she came 3 days after. The nurse said that almost all women get their periods within days of surgery- their body is shocked by the surgery and it just starts. *hint, bring pads and be prepared!* I DID keep this surgery a secret, I didn't want some of my friends to know about it, I was afraid that I would get negative advice from them. Now that everyone can see the results, I kind of wish I would have told them all so I could say I TOLD YOU SO!!! ~Julie
My surgeon is Dr.Myrie in Des Moines, I chose him because my close friend Will had his surgery with him and said good things. (Will is doing great, he's 3 weeks out and down 40lbs). I'll be having LapRNY, I should find out my surgery date on Monday June 16th. And I am quite sure that ice cream will be the hardest thing for me to give up, but I'm working on it already. I've really only spoken about the surgery to my parents, brothers and about three close friends. Co-workers are clueless, that's how I intend to keep it for awhile at least. I dont think there are any questions that I am afraid to ask, what I am afraid of though, is dying. That's what keeps me awake at night and the only fear about the entire surgery I have. They keep telling me over and over again that the surgery is not any more dangerous then any other abdominal surgery, but I am still sooo scared. So if anyone can make me feel better, feel free!!
My surgery date is 9/2/2003. I am having surgery at the U of Iowa. I wanted to have the RYN Lap
and that is the only place I have found in Iowa. I am not looking forward to giving up Chocolate
milk. Chocolate is hard on. I know at the the U of Iowa there is a long wait but I think the time
helped me educate myself and they have you start doing life style changes right away. That way
if you come back in a few months they know your serious and you have to show a weight loss. which
sound strange to me. But they have told me they are looking to see if we can. I have my Pre-Op
appointment on July 30. Lisa J/Cedar Rapids
