What is new? Did you just get your staples out like Susan or Mary? Have you had a consultation yet? Are you post-op and melting away? Please give a brief update of you and also list something you would like to see this board do- like a recipe thread or more get to know you questions... I check this board numerous times a day and think it would be fun to post more. Have a great day! ~Julie

I have had a bad couple of days. I am able to eat junk food again, and I have been. I was at 176, now I am back up to 179. I need to walk more and steer clear of the junk food- I think I need to clean out the fridge and cupboards and just throw it all out! I liked it better when I would get sick when I ate it! On a good note, my size 14 jeans and shorts are baggy, and I bought 2 new pair of shorts, size medium! I think it would be nice to have a recipe thread, but do it on Fridays only, something like that. Have a great day, the sun is out here and I hope it gets to 80 again, I need to work more on my tan! ~Julie

Update: I spent most of yesterday writing my profile for my surgical consult on June 4. I thought most of my questions were answered but as I went through the question and answer postings I discovered there were a few more things I want to know from my surgeon so I hope he has plenty of time! One of the more interesting postings concerned those who lack medically supervised diets in their history. Like many people, I have done most of my dieting on my own. Here is an exerpt from a 28 page appeal letter written by someone who was turned down for surgery for that reason: Per Walter Linstrom @ obesitylaw.com, "It is illegal and discriminatory for them to require you to go through a treatment that they exclude(no insurance company pays for medically supervised diets) in order to qualify for a medical treatment. Also, they can't place requirements that are not part of the prevailing generally accepted medical practice. The generally accepted medical practice is established by the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and is only that you have failed at dietary attempts. If you have dieted at all and failed, that qualifies under NIH guidelines for WLS. I would fight them on this and especially if you have any serious co-morbities, you should be able to win." It made me feel much better to read this since this is the only criteria of my insurance that could cause me trouble. Oh and BTW Julie- I like your "get to know you questions!" They are fun to write AND read! Have a good one! Michelle
