has anyone in iowa gotten a surgeon to take medicaid for the lap vgb?
Nancy,
I shared my experience with Michelle earlier this month...and she changed her mind about having a VBG....and I'd like you to know about my experience also. I had, 7 years ago, an open VBG. I lost 50-75 lbs and gained it all back by the 5th year post op. I was STARVING all the time... it was terrible... the top pouch drizzled food slowly into my stomach so i was constantly having hunger pains and was miserable...so to counteract it, i drank with my food and ate soft foods that would go thru my pouch and still make me full... and lots of it! I am now going back to have a RNY Gastric Bypass, as I have found out that during the first 6 mo. your stomach stops producing gherelin(spelling??), the hormone that makes you hungry.. and allows you to lose quickly and without the physical hunger pains.. and then it produces MUCH less of it there after. I would strongly discourage anyone from having a VBG .... the risks of the RNY are about the same as the VBG and the post op record of keeping off the weight is TERRIBLE. Some have had successful VBGs, but ive found more people that have not and are getting revisions now... If i had to do it again, I would only go thru the pain once with an RNY. Hope this info helped.... ~~~Dawn~~~
