What made you look into weight loss surgery? Did your doctor mention it to you, was it this web site, a friend, family member, etc?

My first weight loss surgery (Vertical Banded Gastroplasty) was unsucessful, and I was referred to the surgeon by my PCP. THIS time, I was convinced while trying to convince my cousin that she SHOULDNT have this surgery. Kinda backfired as i found out the improvements that they've had over this type of surgery in the last 7 yrs. 7 years ago it was alot more complicated and new of a surgery. I got scared and opted for the safer surgery..and to this day i wish i would have went with the gastric bypass.

and I am so happy that she talked to me about this. A good friend of mine had a friend that went through WLS and was having great results, and her insurance paid for it. My good friend was telling me how everything went and mentioned that I should ask my insurance if it is something that is covered. She gave me her friends email address, who in turn gave me this website to do some research... that all got the ball rolling. I remember watching the commercials for litelife and thinking that I wish I could afford that surgery, never did I think my insurance would foot the bill. After I had my surgery, my girlfriend that told me about everything said to me that she was afraid that I would take it the wrong way and that she would hurt my feelings, but she really thought this might be the best thing for me... thank God she did. Thank you Karen!!!!

I am 46 yrs old and do not want to spend the rest of my adult life looking like a blimp. I am getting to the age where the weight-related health issues will be cropping up. I have been lucky to avoid that up until now. Diets do not work for me. I have been on enough of them. I work my a--- off to make them work only to gain back what I have lost when I can't maintain the structure. The surgery will give me a built-in tool to stay on track. I know I won't fail at this- that's why it excites me. I am not afraid of surgery or the things I will have to do afterward because I feel I'm at a point where I no longer have achoice. I have to do this for myself to make my life better! I am at my highest adult weight, a weight where people stare at me and little kids make innocent comments; I have reached the point where I have to be choosy about the size of restaurant booth I am able to sit in. No more of that! Michelle

I have been overweight my whole life. I have tried every diet I could and would lose a few pounds but they would always find me~~~darn things anyway . My girlfriend had it done 8 weeks ago and watching her get healthy and happier with herself gave me the motivation to get off my big butt and DO something about it. I am now waiting to hear back from the surgeon for a date. According to him it could be as early as July. Amy
