Anyone here Have Dr. Cosner?
I had the VBG done in 1997 and Dr. Coster performed a revision to RNY for me in 2001. You can click on my profile to find out more. I don't remember all of the specifics as far as waiting, that may be on the profile. I had better success with the RNY. However, after about 4 years out, I could eat the same amnt of food and any kind of food that anyone can without the surgery. Therefore, you need to change the way and what you eat! I think exercise is the key too. HTH.
THANK YOU ALL for your words of wisdom. I was turned down. I was so angry and hurt cause I had quit smoking and everything. I started smoking out of anger and stress but I quit Jan 1, 2011. I have also went up in weight and my BMI is 43.7. I also have a few more co-morbidities and are pretty bad. I called his office back a few months ago to see if he would look at me again and give me another chance. The girl who answered the phone went to pull my chart and came back and told me that since there committee had turned me down already they would not see me again. Man was I hurt. I then contacted yet another Doctor 2 hours from me - they asked that I have my medical records be sent to them and a letter from my family doctor with all my co-morbidities and they emailed me back saying that I was denied. I hadn't even seen them. I ask them why I was denied and they said because of my past surgeries and past medical records.
I'm 5'2" and weigh 236 - BMI 43 - My co-morbidity list is growing - I have so many of them - and I need to find a doctor that will help me. No one explained to me that RNY don't always make people have the dumping syndrome - so I have done my research and no matter what I read I understand that I have to follow the rules for which I did do with the VBG - but after 3 back surgeries it kind of stops your exercising.
If anyone has a Doctor that they know of in Iowa that would help out someone like me that may be somewhat High Risk for whatever reason - I AM IN need of learning who they are. I can't even clip my own toenails - there are several things I have trouble with because of my size. I'm miserable and my pain has increased in my back with all this added weight. I am unable to wear my BIPAP mask - I just can't do it. I must be a little chlosterphobic or something.
HELP!!!!!!.

Hi my name is Wendy and I had my surgery with Dr Coster way back in 2001 (My old profile is on here but I couldn't access it because I couldn't even remember what email I signed up under but if you look up Wendy H you will find it. I have recently had really good luck using Herbalife and have a friend that actually has lost 225.8 pounds since December of 2009 without surgery just using Herbalife. I started recently because I had gained back almost 70 lbs of the weight I had lost and I was miserable and scared. I have now lost 30 lbs since May 19th and feel wonderful and full of energy. You can ready my story on my blog at http://healthy-wealthy-n-wise.com/blog I would be happy to talk to you more about Weight Loss Surgery or Herbalife or both. I know a lot of people that fought long and hard to have their surgeries approved. Have you tried the program at the University of Iowa? I am actually an RN here at the University but admit I do not know much about our program as I was able to get in and have surgery at Grinnell before I even got an appointment at the U. Of course this was way back in 2001. Dr Coster was an amazing doctor and the staff at Grinnell was awesome. I became a nurse after I had my gastric bypass when I could finally walk across campus and fit in the desks at the college. I would love to talk to you more. You can call me if you want at 319-936-2050 or leave me a message on the blog. I know the heartbreak of being denied. I would love to get an active Iowa group again. When we had surgery way back when there were tons of us and the support was awesome.
