Denial letter - BCBSIL

Well, I got my denial letter from BCBS of IL on Tuesday.  They listed 3 reasons.  They said my BMI was under 40 when in fact it's 64.8, which they discovered in their info when I called them.  They also needed 5 years of records, but were only sent 3, which is no problem, I can send them more.  And lastly they said that even though they received 6 months of Dr supervised diet info, they said I needed to go to Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig or some other money making fad diet place and send that info in.  After talking to the rep for a while and her discussing the issue with her supervisor, she told me she would have one of the claims reps call my Dr today and see if they can gets things approved that way.  She was supposed to call me back today, but big surprise, no phone call.  So I guess I will be calling them back first thing tomorrow on my way to work to find out what is going on.  I feel better than I did when I got the denial letter, but man I just feel so defeated.  I've been working towards this for 2 years and I thought I finally had it right.  I've already lost part of the pre-surgery weight loss my surgeon needs by basically eating close to the way I would after the surgery. Protein shakes, etc.  Now I can't sleep and have to be up in 3 hours.  I hope I can find out something tomorrow.  I am ready to start my new life.

Lisa,
Hugs girl, sounds like you've got a chance at a quick turnaround since there information was not accurate. BCBS is known for accepting appeals or so I've heard. Give us an update as soon as you hear, until then stay strong and keep fighting the good fight.

Lisa,

Keep fighting for this.  It is so worth the battle even though it feels like you've been defeated.  You are your best advocate and if your PCP is supportive of you having this surgery, ask him/her to go to battle for you too.  You will get there..............just don't give up.

Keep us posted on things, please.

Carol
