Well..i think my nerves are getting to me! It hit me like a mack truck last night when my husband left for work! All I could think about was how real this was and how quickly it will be here!! With all emotions running through me, i kept thinking..wow..is this really what I want?! Is this worth it? Will I regret it?? I called my husband for re-assurance and he told me if i dont do it I will regret it in 10 years...which is so true! I hung up and started crying...so scary!! Im excited, Im ready for the change (as best as I can be) I know that it is worth everything, but I cant help but wonder if Im making the right decision?! God forbid something were to go wrong...(which im confident will NOT happen), i just worry about my kids and my husband and my family in general! Ok, enough of this downer crap...im over it today mostly! Im still nervous, but Im confident that this is the right choice for me! I believe that if it werent, GOD would have shown me by now!
Thanks for letting me vent!

Jenn

Greetings!  I was lurking on the Iowa message boards and your post caught my eye.  I'm a former SW Iowa resident (Fremont County) *****located to the Twin Cities about 3 years ago.  I still miss my Iowa neighbors and find myself lurking around here just to see who's around.   I am 2 weeks post-op (RNY) and so far consider this surgery to be the best thing I've ever done for myself.

If you weren't at least a little bit nervous, sweetie you wouldn't be normal.  After all, you're changing your entire life, not just your waistline and this is major surgery.  But it sounds as if you're well prepared and have done your homework, so I'm sure you're going to be fine.   Just keep your eyes on the prize . . . and focus on the quality of life you're giving yourself and your kids by making yourself more healthy and energetic for them.   For what it's worth, I don't know a single person *****grets having this procedure.

For what its worth, I'll hold you and your family in my prayers on the 28th for a safe and successful surgery and speedy recovery.  Good luck on your journey!

I know what you are going through.  My surgery is a day after yours on the 29th and I have been trying really hard to not let my mind wonder.  But it is very scary and exciting in the same breath.  From what I have read on this forum and other forums on OH what you are feeling is very very normal.  I believe that you and I will be just fine.  I will keep you in my prayers as I hope you keep me in yours.  good luck and Congratulations!

Hi Jenn,

I'm sure I will be the same way when it actually happens.  This is not a downer, it's what you need to do. No one should go through this lightly.  You are intelligent and have thought about this for a long time.    I see so many overweight ,diabetic, people who's mobility is limited and needing joint replacements etc etc  The list goes on and on and you have decided to get as healthy as you can.  Keep us updated on how you are feeling and it may help someone else going through the same feelings.

Hang in there!  It will be worth it!

Thanks everyone!! You guys are the BEST! I post on here because I know that chances are you are feeling the same way, or have felt the same way, or will be feeling this way soon! Im doing better today about feeling good about this. You guys are right...and I havent met anyone either *****grets this surgery! Im trying to stay focused on the fact that life is not all about FOOD!!! its just hard to remember that at some times!!

Sheena, I will be praying for you and your surgery, and I will know exactly what your going through since we will be in the hospital at the same time!! Remind me where you are having it done at?? I dont know if its just me or what, but I think this diet is causing short term memory loss!!!

Im going to keep on keeping on!! I CAN DO THIS!!! I WILL DO THIS!!! I AM DOING THIS!!!

OK girlie!
Breathe in... breathe out!
You are having a "1 week freak"!
It is totally normal and I was literally scared to death until the night before my surgery when I got unusually calm. This may seem morbid and hopefully will not scare you further but I made sure all my "ducks were in a row!"
I updated my will, gave copies of my life insurance and all financial info to my sister. It gave me a sense of well being for some strange reason.. besides I knew God didn't want me and the Devil is afraid of me!
You WILL be fine, you WILL be happy you did it!
I am here and close by if you need me!

You guys will all be fine, you'll sail through the surgery and be skipping down the 2nd floor halls(ok, maybe shuffling!)
I was also really calm the day before and the day of, I think it's because I knew I had made the right decision in my life.
Do your self a favor though, the day before my surgery, I took measurements of the following:
Weight
Waist
Hips
Chest
Calve
Thigh
Ankle
Wrist
Neck
Bicep
Tricep
I'm not saying you have to take all of them, but during my 3rd week, when I didn't see the scale move, it helped to see that those numbers moved! They won't do this during your visits, so it's something you'll have to do on your own, but I think it will help whenever we hit a stall!  Let me know if I can do anything for you!

Thanks for the boost!! I especially needed that kick in the butt!! Like i said before, Im feeling a lot better about it today (and yesterday) than I was on Sunday evening...not exactly sure what was going on there?! LOL!!
I was thinking today that I need to measure so I have something to compare too...even if I dont throughout this process at least I would have something for when all is said and done!

The liquid diet pretty much sucks! I cant find any broth that taste good! i started using baby spoons so that I am in the habit of taking small bites (regular silverware is just too much of a temptaion for large bites for me) and it took me over a half hour to eat my yogurt tonight...granted I was talking to my kids and listening to my ipod and stuff too...

Any suggestions on other things I can/should eat? Nothing sounds good about pureed meat!! can we have babyfood at all?? Wasnt sure!?

Time to get the kids to bed, and Biggest Loser is on tonight!!

Aw-rightie now, here's my two cents worth.............but with the economy the way it is now, maybe I should say my 1-1/2 cents worth.

I am glad you are telling us that you are feeling that way because I am too and my surgery is a ways away.  Someone once told me that fear is "False Emotion Appearing Real" and it makes sense right now.  When people say things about the problems they are having, that's when my fears kick in and I know that we are all different and may not have the problems that others have, but it still makes me wonder if I am doing the right thing.  You are absolutely right.............this is the right choice for you (me too) and you are going to be fine.  God knows that and He is watching over you and will be with you through this whole journey.  UIHC has a good reputation and as long as you do what they tell you to do, you'll be absolutely fine.

Vent to us any time about whatever because chances are, someone out here is feeling, tihinking, wondering or dealing with the same thing.  I'm here for you and hope you keep venting and posting.

Hang in there and hugs to you!
