New in Des Moines!

Hello all! My name is Amy, had my open RNY in Mexico Feb 7th, 2006 and have lost 200lbs so far. I moved here recently from Portland, Oregon and am wanting to find others and support groups in the Des Moines area so any info would be great!

Hi Amy.  My name is Jenny.  I live around Des Moines kinda.  I live about 45 miles west but I work and shop and everything else in Des Moines.  The support group that I go to is the first Saturday of every month.  I can email you directions if you would like.  I think our next one is Feb. 7th.  I'll double check that to be sure.  I lived North of Seattle for almost a year.  Beautiful area up there.  Welcome to Iowa and welcome to this board.  Congrats on the weight loss too!  That's wonderful! 

Thank you so much! I do know where Panora is, we actually thought about renting a house there but to far from both our jobs. Hubby works at a Plasma Donation Center in the city area and I am a Nanny for 2 sweet boys out in ******* about 20mins away. Hi, welcome to the des moines area-

I did plasma for 8 years before leaving the industry and going into insurance so I know the challenges your husband faces- des moines is a great area- i think you will like it here!

i attend a support group at Mercy Capital on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30.  The contact person is Traci @ (515) 643-0556

I live in Des Moines and I welcome you even tho the weather does not!  I've been to Portland and it was sooo beautiful!

Have you chosen a group to do your follow-up care?  The Methodist group does have a support group that meets on (I think) the 1st or 2nd Saturday morning.  They welcome anyone from any program.  Mercy is more selective. 

I'm moving my care to Dr. LaMasters (Methodist).  I see her the first time next Monday.  You could call the Methodist Bariatric clinic and get info about the support group.  You might even be able to find it by looking at the Iowa Health System web site.

Lyn~  It is so nice to see you :)  It is Jesi from Dubuque.  I kinda had a stalker so I erased my old profile and took down ALL my pics.  I miss our old crowd!  I can't believe it has been over 5 years for us....it is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!  How is everything going with you?  I am having issues, hoping to get them resolved......but no-one in this town knows how to treat me.....lots of malabsorption issues.  How are you doing after all you work done at the Mayo?  I haven't talked to anyone in so long.  Last I talked to Dixie she was a nurse working while battling breast cancer.  I have talked to Andrea .....since our surgerys she has had three more kids....a set of twins and a single baby.  Laurie D is on my facebook, so I see what she is up too......but other than that the whole gang pretty much dissapeared.  I still lurk on here and on the main board, from time to time.  I hope all is well with you!!!  Talk to you later

I'm having lap RNY surgery next week! With Dr. LaMasters at Methodist Hospital. Our support group meetings are the first Saturday of every month. You can find it on their website...i think its
IowaHealthBariatrics.com. Its usually a good one.
