Jennifer,
It's awesome you got your letter! As for the shakes, I know our program doesn't endorse them, Amy will tell you to do 3 double milks a day which gives you 48g of protien.
However, I usually do 1 protien drink a day just because I get tired of drinking milk, even when you flavor it, it still gets old.
I have tried a couple of the samples from BE, I've liked the Nectar ones, mostly for the fruity flavor, otherwise, I have bought a couple of the EAS ready mades from Wal-Mart, and those aren't too bad either.

I havent tried my samples yet...im kinda scared too...although for what I paid for them, I should!! LOL. I remember Amy saying the double milk thing...how does that taste when you add the evaporated milk to it?? I guess as long as I could add my nsa nesquik it would be fine!?

carolia, what is the ACS resale store? (i think thats what you called it?) and where would one find such a place? Is it online? That sounds like a great option until you stablize your weight...im curious as to how quickly we will actually jump through sizes?? Maybe even skip sizes?? LOL...I have a friend who says i can come shopping through her closed if i want too!! :D Keep your head high...have you tried calling Debi's number?? We will hopefully hear something this week!!!!!

Just thought I would jump in and offer some advice....I also had surgery at UIHC but over 5 years ago.  Debi does reccomend the double milks over protein shakes (as does their nutritionist) ...but double milk is made with powdered milk, not the evaporated stuff in the can.  I can tell you from personal experience that the double milks get old really fast.....and I actually became lactose intolerant after awhile.  To make the milk taste better I would add vanilla extract or banana extract, anything to add flavor.  There reason for avoiding the protein shakes is the calorie counts.....but there are a lot of great tasting shakes made with water that are less than the calories of the double milk and more protein.  You'll have to experiment for yourself.  And I saw that you already ordered samples.....no point trying them now, your tastes will change after surgery.  One thing that was a LIFE SAVER for me was the Elite chocolate mint.....with water it made an AWESOME minty hot cocoa.......plus it was lower calories than double milk and higher protein.   Best of luck!!!!   Take Care

The ACS resale store is located in Dubuque but there might be others.  It's a resale shop and all the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.  I don't know if they have them in other cities or not, but you could check the Yellow Pages and see.  I know they have a resale store in Coralville called Stuff Etc. and that might be a place to try too.  I also think there's some places that WLS patients do clothing swaps but I don't know if that happens at UIHC or not.
