I go for my first consult and all the testing stuff Dec 5 with Dr Jamal.. Good luck! How long did it take from you first appointment to get approval and get you appointment for you pre-op and your surgery date?

Sunny, I had my first consult on Sept 12th, with the psych eval on Sept 29th.  It would have been sooner, however, the therapist I saw was being passive-aggresive and sat on my approval letter for 3 full weeks, I finally had Chris call to get the letter, they wouldn't even talk to me!
PM if you would like to know where I went if you want to try to avoid that theapist.  So Chris got my psych clearance on Oct 17th, and faxed it to BC/BS, I got my approval letter on Oct 27th, it was dated the 24th, so really quick turnaround.
Dec 16th is the earlist I can get for a surgery date now with the delay on the psych paperwork, but at least it's still this year! I'll have preop on Dec 5th, and start liquids on the 9th.  Let me know if you need anything!

That is a ways away--is that the soonest appointment?
Congrats on getting close though, isn't it exciting?!?  I'm scheduled for Nov. 12th--started my 2 week preop diet today!

Kari,
Yeah, that is the soonest...see previous post for explanation.  Good luck, I'm lucky where I only have to do a 1 week liquid...

I understand the delay related to psych paperwork, but everything is in place and still almost 2 months away.  I was wondering if there is that much back-up at UofI?
I got insurance approval Oct. 17th, final consult Oct. 27th (and only because I was gone for a week before), and my surgery is Nov. 12th.

I actually only do liquids for 3 days.  Days 1-11 of the 2 week preop diet are just 1200cal/day restricted.

I'm guessing they're getting backed up now that it's closer to the end of the year, people want to hit deductibles, flex spending ect.

Hey Kari,  CONGRADULATIONS!!!  Glad to hear your on your pre-opt and the big day is Nov.12th. I'll be 3 mo. out on the 5th. The pro-opt is not so bad and it really gets you going for losing those lbs.  Best of luck to you!!  I haven't regreted one day of having the surgery.   WELCOME TO THE LOSERS BENCH!!!!     Margo  from Ames

Margo,

I was concerned about the 2week preop diet but so far so good!   Head hunger is a HUGE issue but I think it's good to start dealing with it now.  I was grocery shopping today and craving all the foods I can't have--seriously missing them and it's only been 2 days! LoL  I came home and cleared out my cupboards, fridge, and freezer of EVERYTHING I can't/won't be able to eat.  I don't even want to guess the cost of all the food either hitting the trash or I'm taking it over to my parent's house for them to have...but I simply cannot have it here because it's too much of a temptation.

I'll be seeing you on the losers bench very soon--less than 2 weeks away!!

I am hoping that they can use the psych consult that I had when I was going to go to Cedar Falls because I passed that one with flying colors!
I am so excited for both of you!!!
