Hi I'm new to the Iowa site, but been on the lap band message boards a while.I have  Dr.Glas****In August my 6moth  supervised  diet  will be over and  waiting for Medicaid to approve me .Although  Medicare will pay the biggest share of it, Medicaid will pick  up the  difference, anyone else have  the same situation..I was told by the Dr. office it usually takes about  week to  10 days for a approval(crosses fingers its approved).I gained  2 pounds in the  6 moth process. will that hurt me any on the approval side of things?i  have month and  half to  get that off and more if possible..SleepinDove6...

Good luck to you! I've been back and forth about weight gain/loss on a supervised diet.  I'm doing it right now and there is a clause in my insurance that states you have to be unable to sustain weight loss on the diet for them to approve--so right now I'm just maintaining and working on changing other things (like cutting out caffeine and carbonation).  Wish I could be more  help, I'm kind of in the same boat as  you!  :) Kari

Hi Kari, thanks for the reply,I read the posts each day and night ..I am so great full for the  support of  this OH site.I was a bit scared at some of the things  I read such as(  the gas pains after surgery etc..) But I had a stapling in 92 and  got a real bad infection and it  ate  away my staples and as  you know my  weight came bk on.My Dr. said it would not be a revision  becuz there is nothing to  revise  every thing is  gone nothing to even prove I had stapling ..So I'm going to try  the lap band.I wanted  RnY he thought this would be  better..........As for the  Diet my Dr. will not  do the surgery if I gain more then 5# actual weigh in weight I'm up 2 #. hope the 2 week liquid will  take that  2# off...I'm so  envious  of those who had it done and is on the losers  bench..I lost  112 # having stapling  in 8 months  .I hope   this will be as  easy for me as  that was, although I  realize  the banding takes longer to get it off but more beneficial to keep it off too.. Good Luck Kari.. Jeanie :p

Jeanie, I'm curious why your doctor thought the banding would be more beneficial to you.  I am going to have RNY.  I think the most important thing with WLS (as you have learned) is that for it to be successful you have to completely change the way you eat.  With the band people can easily cheat.  Chocolate shakes go down easy.  With RNY most dump on sugars and fats which is a great way to keep you from cheating--and something I felt I really needed for myself. Your doctor is in Waterloo isn't he?  My group of docs mentioned his name last weekend at our support group meeting!  Nothing bad--was just saying he was the other doctor in the state doing a lot of lapbanding as well. (my group of doctors does the most lap bands of any of the programs in Iowa). Anyway--good luck and keep us updated on your progress! Kari

Hi Kari,At first I wanted a band he said becuz of the previous  stapling iIwas not a candidate for it and there fore I  would either get  a RnY or nothing, after he  seen there was no staples  left  and no indication there even was one, he said  he  thinks the banding was the best becuz of  my M.S.. wouldn't be  as harsh on it as the RnY.I am    keeping my fingers  crossed   to get approved in mid August. so I can start the 2- weeks liquid, and surgery in  early Sept.I'll keep in touch.. .Jeanie (SleepinDove6) ;p
