Hey everyone...okay I am in need of some assistance.  I have IA Medicaid and am trying to get this surgery.  I did EVERYTHING they required in order to get approval  and I get a denial letter today stating that I do not meet the set age required by Iowa Medicaid Enterprises in order for approval for gastric bypass surgery?  What does this mean?  Anyone heard of this?  If this was the case, why didnt the insurance dept in my surgeons office let me know this...so that way if I wasnt even going to get approved on that alone..that would have save a whole lot of time, you know?  Please let me know..any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

Tonya, I wish I had an answer for you.  Is there any way you can get a copy of the insurance plan?  Maybe they read your age wrong.  Ask your Dr.'s office if there is anything they can do to help you or if they can advise you on what to do.  Good luck with this.  Let us know what happens. Karla

Gosh Tanya, sorry to hear this!  To get the requirements for my insurance company I looked up the benefit information from my employer (they have ours online) and also called the insurance company to get the specifics.  My employer has a requirement of being at least 18 years old.  I'd call and find out.  Just remember that just because you got denied now doesn't mean you can't appeal! Hi, Margo! I'm almost through the requirements before we can submit to insurance.  The problem is that my insurance has the ridiculous requirement of a 12 month supervised diet and we are trying to get around that.  So either it will be in the next couple of months--or next year! How long have you been in Ames? I've been here most of my life! Kari

Hi Kari,  I'M also almost ready to submit to my insurance. I go to the dietican on Tuesday and my Physc test in 2 weeks. I sure hope they can get your ins.to go through, it would be a bummer if you have to wait 12mos.  I have lived in Ames my whole life.  Do you have any friends that have had WLS??  Margo

Hey Kari!  I also live on  the west-side over behind the old Middle school on  Morningside St.  I work at the Mall doing hair. I know a gal from Boone who had the lapband last July and has lost 70lbs. , I have only talked to her on the phone but she 's doing great.  I am suppose to go Tuesday to my Dietcian appt. but I have a step-son getting married on Sat. the 24th and I feel like I need to reschdule til June cause there's to much going on. We're having the Rehearsl dinner in our backyard and things are starting to overwelm me. I know it will all get done but I'm really busy at work too right now.  What do you do and where do you live?  Are you on any exersize program now?  I am walking when I can.   Margo
