I need help please!!!
Help me!!! Today is my day to start eggs, beans, cottage cheese, and protein. I am really scared to start the protein and not sure how I know how much I am getting?? I got the ok to make sugar free pudding with skim milk if I put protein in it but if I do that, how do I know how much I get per serving? I am not really liking the protein either so does anyone have some suggestions of what to do at day 11 and any recipes? Please Help!!! Chris
Dear Chris,
Since you are just at the soft foods stage, I wouldn't worry too much about getting all your protein in. This will take time. Right now you do need to focus on eating protein, but put more attention to eating slowly, chewing well, and not eating too much. Your pouch is still healing and you don't want to pu**** Once you get to the full foods stage, you can always go online to a site like www.nutritiondata.com to get all the nutrution data you need.
I didn't use any protein drinks--couldn't stand them--so drank more skim milk (9 grams protein per glass) as my liquid.
But all that being said, you should follow your doctor's protocol and contact the nutritionist if you are concerned.
Good luck,
Sally
Hey Chris.......add some powdered milk to your skim milk for added protein or even to your cottage cheese. I think just getting started to introducing food back to your new pouch will be enough to worry about let alone how much protein you are getting. You will adapt to a style that you will learn to measure and adjust so you know how much protein you are getting in. Use the website they gave you, as much as it suck for everything else, it has a great food journal to keep track of everything. I still use mine daily and faithfully at that. Follow your binder is the only advise I have. As far as eggs go, that early out the only way I could eat them was poached. Any other way was too painful. Shot me a msg if you wish. You know how to find me. Hang in there, from what I hear you are doing FABULOUS!
Thanks Lisa. I am so scared to try cottage cheese because I don't like it. I know things taste different after surgery but man I am not digging that. I have had 2 eggs now with no troubles and am gonna try refried beans tonight. Janette actually said I can add up to 1tsp of taco sauce to flavor my beans. I was shocked. Do you think it will be 2 soon to try the string cheese now? I just thought that would help me more with the protein. I only have 10 more days til I can "true to them" start it and just wondered what you thought of it. I have not vommited from anything yet, thank God, is that good? Did you vommit at first? I know the gal that had surgery the same day as me is nauseated everyday all the time. I am so glad that is not me. Well, thanks so much and can't wait to hear what you think. Have a great weekend.
Chris
I didn't throw up until 6 weeks post op, but I was pretty conservative. I did have the beans from taco bell, they had cheese and sauce in them. Granted a few bites was all I needed to get full. But I tolerated them well. Still do! YUM! string cheese? Um my answer to you would be follow the book.......but in reality its hard to do. All you can do is try it, but you don't want to push your new pouch over the edge. If you choose to try it, chew chew chew. Liquify it in you mouth. On the line of cottage cheese, I hated that stuff preop. The look the smell the taste just the idea was nasty! Now I eat it all the time. The only thing I do is add some splenda to it. Satisfies my sweet tooth, plus get protein/calcium and it is filling for me.
Chris,
I have been wondering how you have been. Did you get my message? I am so sorry that I have been sick. I just got my voice back today. It was a long one for me. I would take things slow and follow the book, that is the best advice. I was to scared to push things when it came to eating. If you need anything please give me a call and let me know how things are going.
Take care,
Stephanie
