Hi there,   New to the process.  Need lots of info.  Are there doctors in my area good with DS/bpd and doing it laproscopically?  What should I know before I choose which WLS I get?  Is there financial help to people with out insurance?  Thanks for any info you have for me!!!   Michelle in Cedar Rapids

If you dont have insurance and cant get on medicaid you can finance it or pay out of pocket.. unfortunatly the surgery is VERY expensive.  I am just starting the process and in Eastern Iowa the best doctor I have found is Dr Glas**** in Cedar Falls. I went to the seminar run by him the other night and I am going to go with him! He has his stuff together.  Alot of people have their own opinions on here. All you can do is do your homework and make your own decision.  Good Luck Dawn

Thanks Dawn, I think A friend of mine went with him, but I have to check with her.  I need to look into medicaid.  Good luck with your process!  Michelle

There are a few of us on this board that have used him.. You made a great choice! Their program is fantastic and Sartori and their staff is fantastic!

I live in Iowa City and just had surgery with Dr. Glas**** in Cedar Falls.  He is fantastic.  More importantly, his support staff and Sartori are fantastic.  I only saw him twice... once at the seminar and once at my presurgery appt.  You will primarily deal with Angie and Mary in his office.. they are great.  Can't give them enough praise, especially poor Mary who I definitely harassed a lot! lol  I was so impressed with the entire experience! Their website is www.obesityhelpiowa.com Not sure about the insurance thing.. I know they do have cash prices.  There are also places in Mexico that a few of my internet buddies have used with great success.  And the price is a lot less... but it all depends if you want your doctor close or not.

Thanks Iowagirl for the great info.  I will visit the web link.  It is just what I needed.  Isn't there anyone at U of I hospital? Michelle

Part of the reason I chose Glas**** was that my aunt's stepson and his wife had their surgeries with him.  Also, when I called U of I, to even get a consult was months and you had to be on a waiting list. I also like smaller hospitals.. the UIHC intimidates me sometimes! lol

I went to Iowa City and had Dr. Samuel, I had Lap RNY done on April 10 and have been very very happy.  Dr. Samuel meets with you at almost every appointment which I really liked he makes sure he answers all your questions and goes over everything in great detail.  I loved the Staff too even though it seems like you meet everyone in the office.  I haven't been in 2 months since I don't see them again until my 6 month post op but they are so supportive and helpful and it was a very smooth process.  From January until April was all I had to wait to get approval from insurance and then it was smooth from there on out.
