I am looking for a new GP doc.  I have not been very happy with the reactions I have gotten when people find out I had WLS.  I am looking for a doc in this area that is supportive of my decision and knows how to deal with any issues I may have.  Does anyone in this area have any suggestions.

Me and my mother both have had surgery and we see Dr Tammy Obrien and Dr Julie Sterling at Family Medicine Specialist on 8th Ave near Mercy Hospital.  They are both great.  I actually still see my surgeon for blood work, I am dealing right now with Vit D deficiency. But Dr Sterling follows my mom's blood work.  I am not sure if either are taking new patients but you could give them a call, 319-364-8704.  It is a practice of 5 female drs and a male PA.  I actually really like all of them.  They also see my 18 month old daughter.  Good luck Kourtney

I see Dr. Bradley Beer with Mercy.  He is located on Blairsferry Road near the Edgewood Road intersection.  His phone # is 365-7521.  He has been very supportive of me with my decision to look into WLS.  They also have a lab right in the office, so no need to go out for that.   I know he is taking new patients. Thank you both so much.  I have been in the interview process for a new doc and when I tell them so far that I had wls they get this look on their face and start preaching to me about everything.  I am not looking for a lecture I still see my surgeon every six months and will for 2 years I just want a regular doc to see for everything else.  I will call both offices and go from there.

I go to Dr Ann Blackman.  She's at Iowa Health Physicians just off off Edgewood Rd.  She originally came to that office after my Dr left for North Liberty.  At the time, I was just headed into my decision, and I was very worried that a new (to me) Dr would hold up my recommendation for wls.  She was very supportive.  I've never had an issue with her, but in full disclosure, I rarely go to the dr.    I'm there all of the time for blood draws, but I'm just not usually sick...  Good luck!
