I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to finance cosmetic surgery?  My insurance company says that removing my "pannis" is cosmetic and they won't cover it.  My insurance also has an exclusion on my policy that they won't cover weight loss surgeries of any kind.  I need help!!!!     I need to get this extra skin "weight" removed since it weighs like 50 pounds or more. Is it excluded or does it say "cosmetic"?  Because the excess skin we need removed is NOT cosmetic.  Check with a plastic surgeon and have them try to submit it.  Be sure if you have rashes, that you are having them documented and treated.  The rash thing is pretty key in this process.  That changes it from cosmetic to necessary.  The only thing you are out is your time and possibly the consult fee with the plastics doc.  Give it a whirl and be presistant.

Yes, my surgeon has tried to submit the "pannis" removal (excess skin) to my insurance for pre-approval.  I did have some rashes and took pictures but the insurance  company wouldn't look at the pictures.  We went thru all 3 levels of appeals with no success.  My excess skin weighs about 60 pounds....which I would love to have removed.  In all of the denials, my insurance company called the procedure "cosmetic".

You might want to talk to a lawyer.  Or try to secure a home equity loan to pay for it yourself.  I would think with that much excess skin, you are susceptible to a whole host of problems, like back problems etc.  Don't give up!

I have spoken with a lawyer but she couldn't guarantee that we would win.  Plus, I don't have a lot of extra money hidden in my house.  I have back problems, knee problems, and I have sleep apnea to name a few.  I had to go in to debt for this surgery since I already have a mortgage on my home.  I have a family of four and I am the only one working since my husband has some heart problems and has to be careful.  I actually contacted "new image" consulting for financing the procedure and I was informed that I have to weigh about 197 before they will to the surgery.  Well, I weigh about 425...so that is a long weighs to 197.  I am miserable all of the time and hate being out of breath just walking thru my house.
