Today is THE day!!!
Surgery went pretty well - I had a huge hiatal hernia that needed repaired and by the grace of God, Dr. Eibes was able to do it laprascopically without having to open me up! I am so thankful for that!
I am pretty sore, especially my port area and the area of the hiatal hernia, and have gas pains, but I know these won't last forever, and I just can't wait to to be a BIG LOSER.....lol
Thanks for thinking of me!
Hugs,
JoDee
JoDee, how are you doing? I'm anxious to read about your experience! I went for my consult with Dr. Eibes today, and, surprisingly, he seems to favor the LapBand for me. I really thought I wanted RNY, but after spending today thinking it all over and reading tons, I think I'm back to my original decision, which was for the band. Any regrets? I need insurance clearance, I'm a tad worried. Nova said she's optimistic, but, of course, no guarantees and to start the diet just in case. My insurance covers it (BC/BS of MN), but I wonder about being told to have a diet first, etc. My medical file is slim for the past 3 years, just annual exams and some mentions of obesity and diet. I do have hypertension, medicated, and joint pain though, plus medical records from the late 90s with Xenical and other wl efforts. Anyway....hope you have an easy time of it!
I'm doing pretty good! I may have overdone it a bit yesterday running some errands, but I've learned I've gotta slow down a little.
I feel great! The first 3 days were the hardest! I still have some pain, but it is very manageable! Still some gas, okay, maybe more than SOME.....lol.....my stomach was rumbling and grumbling and making all kinds of noises last night I couldn't sleep. I ended up on the toilet for quite a bit - you know what they say - liquid in, liquid out (diarrhea) - I finally got to bed and got some sleep, but the stomach noises continued.
I have absolutely no regrets about getting the band! I just heard from a friend yesterday that knows a gal here in town who has the bypass about 2 weeks ago and is already sabotaging herself! I just don't understand that! She is only about 2 weeks out from surgery, a major surgery, and ate Kentucky Fried Chicken! Can you imagine? I guess she got really sick, which I think she totally deserved! Not only is it too soon to eat solids, but KFC? It's not even healthy! She didn't give up smoking before her surgery and she didn't give up the pop either, not sure about now. But it seems to me she really wasn't ready for the lifestyle changes she needed to make. It just really makes me mad cuz I know this girl is on Social Security Disability (because of her weight) and has Medicare and Medicaid and that it is our tax dollars paying for her surgery! And she can't even follow the rules - geesh!
Sorry, I just needed to vent about that....lol
I hope everything goes smoothly for you for your insurance approval!!!
Keep in touch and let me know how you are progressing!
JoDee
That IS too bad for someone to be making such bad choices. I hope if I get the opportunity (please o' please, insurance, come through for me!), that I will be able to make good choices, esp in the harder early days. i really do feel comfortable with the band...love the idea of safer and quicker recovery, plus not rearranging my insides if I don't have to. I was surprised the office said their practice is more bands than anything now, maybe only two RNY's a month compared to tons more bands.
Glad to hear you're doing ok! That gas sounds like a real treat.....not! :)
