Well I am almost there.  I started my liquid diet this past Monday July 9 and so far things have not been bad to my amazement.  The very first day I was cutting up a cantelope for the family and I took 1 bite without thinking and then I thought to myself 'that is how I got where I am at...not thinking.'  So I have made a mental note everytime I have done anything for my family with food this week to not eat or taste anything and I have done excellent.  Haven't even cheated.  I haven't really been hungry either.  The other night before I started making goulash (my avorite meal) for the family I drank one of my pretein drink because it was meal time and then I was not hungry and didn't even think of eating any.   I can not believe I am so close now.  I found out on July 22 that I was approved and things have moved really fast since then.   I met with Dr G and had my pre op teaching last Thursday.  He is a wonderful compassionate person and I have all the faith in the world in him.  He truely cares for his patients and there success.  While meeting with him he told me that my labs had all come back and my cholesterol was 'alarmingly high' to quote him.  I didn't even know I had high cholesterol.  That just gave me another reason to believe this IS the right thing for me.   Well I had better go I am off to go for a bike ride this afternoon.  Talk to everyone later.

Yes I had to upper GI.  It was nothing.  They said some people are tired afterwards but I wasn't.  I couldn't even tell I had anything done that day.  I was sore or horse or anything.  I felt fine.   Good luck with your liquid diet.  I am using the Boost Breeze fruit juice drinks because I don't like the protein mixed into a drink.  I did make some jello with the Beneprotein in it and that was ok but I really like the Boost Breeze so I am sticking with that.  Besides makes it easier for me because it is already made up and easy just to grab a juice box.  I bought the pre canned and bottled orange juice and tomato juice as well.  My daughter is doing the cooking most of the time so that makes it even easier.  What are you going to use?

Where did you pick up the Boost Breeze? We went to the grocery store and got most of the stuff.. I've tried the Special K water and it was blech.  We got a lot of jello and I'm going to pick up the Beneprotein to mix in with the jello.  Also.. I want to try that orange julius recipe.  I don't do the tomato juice (lol) but did get some grape juice and apple juice boxes for work as well as bottled water.

You can order the Boost Breeze online at walgreens.com.  Don't bother going to the store because they didn't even know what I was talking about and then when they looked it up in their catalog they told me they could order it for me and I could pick it up ...and get this.....they were going to charge me 36.97 for 24 juice boxes of it and when I go on line it is free shipping and the total cost is 29.99 and I don't have the headache of going to get it.  I have ordered 3 times (because my mom is using it as well) and each time it takes 3-4 days to get it.  They have 3 flavors  peach, wild berry and orange.  I have only tried the wild berry and really like it so I am sticking to it.   I drink 3 a day 250 calories each, 9 grams of protein each, and my orange juice is 140 calories with 2 grams of protein and the tomato juice is 30 calories with 1 gram of protein soI am getting exactly the 30 grams of protein they want us to have a day before surgery.   I like the tomato juice but I am curious, did they tell you that you didn't have to drink it?  They told me to make sure I was getting the oj and tomato juice in for the potassium.   The beneprotein in the jello kind of globbed up on the bottom of my bowl so I am glad that I don't have to use that anymore with the protein I am getting from the above.  I figure I will save the beneprotein for after surgery when I move on to mushy stage and I can mix it into something with substance. Until then I will stick with the Boost Breeze.   Have you had your pre op appointment with Dr Glas**** yet? Mine was last Thursday.  He is an awsome man.  Very compassionate and funny to boot.  I got my prescriptions for the pain meds and the antibiotics while I was there and went and filled them so they are here already.  Got my friendly (rather large looking to me) bottle of laxative drink also.  So next Saturday morning I get to have a 10oz bottle of ****tail for breakfast and then won't be leaving home for the day. HAHA Keep in touch.  It is great having someone who is working with Dr Glas**** to talk to.   Take care  Jackie

That definitely looks like a possibility.  I'm so darned picky, which is my biggest concern about the liquid diet. As for the tomato juice, Mary said to drink oj both times. Haven't had my preop yet.. my upper GI isn't until Wednesday.  I'm tentatively scheduled for the 2nd.. but we'll see if that actually happens.  I should have Friday's blood tests to see if my thyroid is in line.. if so, that's really the only thing delaying me.

One other idea for the tomato juice (which I wasn't a fan of either) -- I mixed mine with some beef broth warm for a tomato beef soup -- very tasty (I got very tired of anything fuity when I was on the liquid diet). Good luck ... and remember ... YOU CAN DO THIS!

I LOVE tomato soup (which is weird considering I don't like the juice) so this is a GREAT idea.  My DH is doing the liquid diet with me.. let's see how long it lasts! lol He has about 20-25 lbs to lose and he thinks this would be a great way to a) help me with the diet and b) lose some weight on his own. I'll believe it when I see it! ;-)
