Surgery postponed... hopefully not for long!
And I"ll take the blame.. my thyroid was WAY out of whack and that has to be in line before they operate. I've been out of my thyroid pills and needed a refill script but have been putting it off.
SO now I'm back on the thyroid meds. :-)
In GREAT news... I'm no longer prediabetic!!! When I was told I was prediabetic six or so months ago, I totally changed my diet. They said my sugar levels are excelllent!! *happydance*
I still have my gastro appt and my pulmonologist appt coming up. We'll retest my thryoid mid July and hopefully if it is within range I'll have surgery 1st week of August.
I'm actually thinking about starting the liquid diet early (how crazy is that?!?) because they did say my liver was fatty. I also think it may jump start some weight loss--which couldn't ever hurt! lol
Sorry to hear your wls has been put on hold for a while but it is for the best. He wants you to be in the best shape you can be. You may want to rethink that idea of starting the liquid diet early. The 2 weeks I was on it was HELL. And if thats not enough you get to be on it for 2 weeks after wls. To this day I can't eat jello or broth. Just a word of caution. Cindy
I wanted to say Hi neighbor!! I am from Columbus City, about 25 miles south of Iowa City.. a hop skip and a jump down 218!! We should meet up sometime! Hope your surgery is not pospotned to long! Great news on your sugars! Have a great day

Stacy,
I'm sorry to hear about the delay but he does know best. Dr G postponed my surgey & Janie's too due to needing surgery for other problems first. It was a real disappointment at the time. I actually could not speak to him the next time I saw him, I wa so angry. But he made the right decision & it made my recovery so much easier.
Now about the clear liquids, I don't recommend doing it longer than he requires. It really wears you down. Although they factor in some protein, it really isn't a healthy diet to be on for an extended length. And, I know that you will get sick of it during the 2 weeks after. Four weeks is a long time. Besides, if you get sick of it during the last 2 weeks before the surgery and cheat, he will refuse to do the surgery. Your fatty liver will get smaller during the 2 weeks. If you want to jump start your loss, just eat very sensibly between now & then. You actually won't need a jump start. Look what will happen after.

I'm sorry to hear about the postponement, but that IS wonderful news about your sugar levels!!!
Every surgeon is different in what they prescribe pre-op. I have read where some surgeons require 2 and 3 weeks for a liquid diet pre-op. I have to do a 1200 calorie diet starting July 2nd and then two days before surgery nothing but protein drinks, sf pudding, unsweetened applesauce, yogurt, etc. My surgery is scheduled for July 16th and I can't wait!!!!
Unfortunately, now and then I have been eating my "last supper" several times over the last two weeks, things I will never eat again after surgery (at least that is my plan, to only eat healthy foods once banded).
Take care and keep us posted!!
Hugs,
JoDee
