Mercy Medical Hopeful

Hi there, my name is Jennifer and I weigh about 290 lbs. I am hoping to hear some info and results about people who have had surgery done at Mercy Medical in Sioux City and if so ... are there any that were covered under Medicaid at the time? I am a medicaid member and trying to find out what requirements and steps are necessary to get going on this, I am excited and eager to find out everything I can about this so if there is anyone in the sioux city area that has had a lap band procedure or other related surgery done please let me know what your experience was like. Dear Jennifer, I had the rny at Mercy but under private insurance. Have you spoken with the Mercy Bariatric Program coordinator? She might be able to give you more information. There is a woman who attends the support group who is working on doing the lap band with Medicad. She attends the local support group but will have the surgery elsewhere. I had the rny with Dr. Rizk and have had great results. Good luck, Sally

Hi, I also had RNY surgery with Dr. Rizk, in Jan '06, at Mercy.  I had a great experience at Mercy, I ended up with complications, but the staff of Drs. & Bari nurses were wonderful.  They were very encouraging, and sincerely listened to the questions & concerns I had. My surgery was covered by my company's insurance, so I don't have any advice about Medicaid. Hope that you continue to research and do the homework... it really makes the whole process a lot easier to get through.  The OH boards are a wonderful place to get answers to questions and find support.
